wine users - May 2009 - Unable to install Direct X 9

So I got ye olde winetricks. When I try and get it to install DX9 all goes well
until it actually begins unpacking files. Then the terminal pops up with a nasty
error msg.

err:setupapi:do_file_copyW Unsupported style(s) 0x144

and when it's all over with, DX9 is not installed. What's going on here?
And how do I fix it?

Are you sure it's not installed? The terminal can sometimes print
scary stuff, even though things work fine.

every time I open winetricks the DirectX 9 box is unchecked

ran the application in question and there's some really weird rendering
going on (tried reinstalling it to). How do I check wineprefix?

rooted around in the prefix, no Direct X to be found.

enter that in the terminal? I don't see d3dx9 listed on my list of
winetricks packages.

ah, well I managed to install that one. The issue I had with the program in
question persists, but things seem ok as far as wine is concerned. Thanks for
the help.
