I was running SWG on WINE 1.0.1-1 on my Debian (Lenny) AMD64 unit with only a few problems with joystick and some sound. It was running better with WINE than I could ever get it under Cedega. Anyway I decided to upgrade to 1.1.17 with hopes of solving some of my present issues. I tried many short cuts to this but ended up Totally cleaning out wine and directory and installing fresh, then installing the game. It gave me the same message as all short cut attempts did. DirectX not loaded... I have searched the forums and Bugzilla and have not found a clear answer as to why it would work in 1.0.1-1 and not 1.1.17 and how I might go about fixing it so decided to post.

NVidia GeForce 8500 GT running driver 180.29 Terminal????.... ummm hmmmm Wow, guess I better try running it from terminal. Sorry to say I am mainly running my Linux boxes from the GUI (KDE).... And I am a computer guy with customers. I will go run it now from Term and see if I can pull some logs, just thought this would be quick answer as Linux, Desktop, Game is all the same only change was version of WINE from 1.0.1-1 to 1.1.17
Reloading the Video card driver DID fix the problem even though it was same version Thanks for poke in right direction. ...how does wine1.0.1-1 to wine1.1.17 upset VCard driver???
wow... basically 1.1.17 out of box is a large improvement in my game. Under 1.0.1-1 I had to do quite a few registry tweaks to get to 30fps and I could never load into game turning on the joystick pre-game config option. With 1.1.17 Joystick works 30fps and sound better (still issues)... Only a few tweaks and I will be way better off then before on 1.0.1-1 which was way better than Cedega which I do not need anymore Thanks to WINE and this forum. (Special Thanks to vitamin)
