[Weft QDA users] large data set, co-occurance and line numbers
Dear all, I am trying to choose a QDA program for a large study with 120 participants interviewed at two time points. I really like how intuitive Weft QDA is but have questions before committing to the program. I apologize if this has been covered here already -- I could not find answers to the following questions. 1) Will Weft QDA be able to handle a pretty large data set of 120 (90 min) interviews? 2) The transcriptions have line numbers by the narrative that I would like to keep in the analysis and coding. Is there a way to keep these line numbers when I convert to .txt files? When I tried it the line numbers went away. 3) Can I run searches for co-occurring themes. For example, can I have Weft bring up all the times the themes "race" and "access to care" come up in the codes? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Yours, Rita -- Rita M. I''d suggest you also consider QDA software that''s updated and supported. If you do go with Weft, make sure you keep regular separate backups.> 1) Will Weft QDA be able to handle a pretty large data set of 120 (90 > min) interviews? It shouldn''t run into any problems here.> 2) The transcriptions have line numbers by the narrative that I would > like to keep in the analysis and coding. It sounds like something else is displaying line numbers for you apart from the main text. This isn''t really a Weft question, but there should be a few different ways to add line numbers to text after it''s converted and before it''s imported to Weft - have a look on the web.> 3) Can I run searches for co-occurring themes. For example, can I have > Weft bring up all the times the themes "race" and "access to care" come > up in the codes? The ''Query'' tool can do this - search for CODED BY ''race'' AND CODED BY ''access''. It''s in the Search menu. best alex

Hi Rita, if you''re not sure about Weft for this purpose, you could try Opencode (version 3.6 now) or otherwise TAMS Analyzer if you can work on an OSX/Linux platform. These are all freeware. Otherwise, you could consider using dedoose or saturate, both web-based services for a relaitively small fee that enable collaborative coding if I am correct. sincerely, Gisbert van Ginkel.
