Hi Rob, the question why there are no direct transcoders has already been answered on this list. I'm sorry but I think you will get the only possible answer: don't do it. If the people 'in the field' are not able to select a specific codec, your only choice may be to allow all codecs in the speech corpus; I wouldn't recommend reencoding all 'in the field' samples to one standard codec, anyway. If the speech corpus cannot maintain a special codec, then decode the samples to wave and archive losslessy.
