I have need to make an .ogv file available on IE6. I am using cortado_latest.jar to make this happen. Hovering over the playing video causes the status bar to appear as expected. In the status bar the play button, pause button, and stop button all work as expected. However the slider has no effect. I have examined and tried several of the parameters but see nothing that would make the slider in the bar work. When using Firefox to view the same file the slider works. Any suggestions? --Greg Hendley -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: http://lists.xiph.org/pipermail/theora/attachments/20101012/8639305d/attachment.htm

Can you tell us what versions of the Java Plugin (JVM) you are using in each browser? IMHO it's much more likely to be due to different JVM versions than different browsers. Cortado is supposed to work across essentially all JVMs, so it would be good for us to know which version has a problem. --Ben -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Hi , if I dare to go a bit off-topic , I would say my thoughts about current solutions for theora playing in IE. Currently apart from IE and safari 100% of the browsers can read OGV. Those 2 browsers represent 50% on my websites. Safari is a special case. Quicktime always works and java is preinstalled on MAC. I usually propose to install the QT Xiph plugins. IE is difffent, installed windows plugins can differ over the visitors, few years ago Java was preinstalled in most cases and people really need it. Now I see 20% of my visitors that don't have java installed and launching cortado will ask them to go througha 15 MB download and at least 30 seconds install just to play a Video. But a new solution arised few months ago : Chrome Frame. By triggering through IE User agent detection the installation of chrome frame can start automaticthis ally or you can use the offline installer. The bad news is that it's even Bigger than Java installer : 20MB :-( But after this installation, Your website ( and most big google websites ) appear as fast as in Chrome. I do think if you have issue with Java, that chrome frame is a solution to explore. Cheers 2010/10/13 Greg Hendley <ghendley at us.ibm.com>> I have need to make an .ogv file available on IE6. [theora] Cortado status controls in IE6

Thanks for asking. I should have thought to include this in my first post. None of the lines began with [ERROR]. Here is one interesting warning (and preceding two lines) [INFO] build info: Built on 2010-03-19 18:48:28 GMT (version 0.6.0) in stripped mode. hello all - i wish to use theora for voice-audio website playback. ideally i would be using speex but from what i can tell, i am unable to use theora in html5 to play back speex files. i know speex can be done with flash, but i want to avoid using flash. i have about 5,000 separate but SHORT audio voice files (most are under 5 seconds). i have selected ogg-vorbis 32kbps 22,050 mono as my settings. does anybody have any opinions on this? any better ideas? note - i need to avoid mp3 for this project. thanks, mark -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... (I'm including the list in my reply to you.) Just to clarify, Theora is a video format. Speex is an audio format. There is no obligation in either format definition to support the decoding of the other (i.e., a Theora decoder doesn't have to support Speex). One application that does support that combination is VLC Media Player, which works across Windows, Mac, & GNU/Linux. Additionally, it is unfortunate that, while many browsers support doing so, there is no mandatory, royalty-free format specified by HTML5 for multimedia. So we have the situation where Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, & Opera all support Ogg Theora + Vorbis natively, Apple Safari does not. Microsoft Internet Explorer also has no plans to support Ogg formats natively. Both Safari & IE can be made to support them, however, but require additional software to enable such support. On every page supposed to play sound add "Sound not playing? Get latest Firefox or Opera browser or download the file in OGG Vorbis format and play in in your audio player" with download link. -- ~~~ wow ~~~
hello all - thank you to everybody who helped me! it appears there is no way to get speex working over the internet the way theora-ogg and flash-mp3 works without resorting to some shockwave conversion. i did see the moodle speex option but i was hoping for a more stand-alone solution. one more question - when I use the <audio /> tag in firefox, am I using theora or some other native firefox player? since cortado has an audio-only option, i thought that maybe we we were using theora "audio-only" in the native <audio /> html5 firefox. thank you, mark edwards -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
