Are any of these still relevant?

It would be helpful to start individual email threads and actually 
solve them.

(BTW, these are not the only issues. There are other known issues, 
and, for some of those, there have been (some kind of) patches sent.)

Yes.  Meanwhile I came to doubt that boot_linux should be implemented in
C at all.  It would be much more straightforward in Lua.

That patch is still sitting in my repository, with some others mainly
improving the Lua documentation.  Shame on me.
