Need some assistance, I have a firewall I am trying to reinstall the os, on, and I have no idea how to do it, they sent me syslinux, but I have no idea what kernel to use, or really how to install it using syslinux. Please, any help will be appreciated. Scott Latta Network Administrator Techsupport Supervisor Nexity Bank A+, NET+, MCP 205-298-6482
Hi! Please tell _which_ OS you have to reinstall? Vyatta? What will be your install media? (I think USB drive, either flash or HD) Is the target platform really lacking DVD drive? May be you could borrow USB one. Are you able to setup DHCP/TFTP boot, such as Windows RIS/WDS? Best regards, Sergii P.S. Generic instructions for conversion of Bootable CD to USB media: 1. You should format your media as FAT32 and make it bootable. 2. Copy CD content to the root of your drive. (Or unpack ISO here with 7-zip/WinRar/Winimage/etc) 3. Set volume label to the same one as on CD. 4. Move isolinux folder content to drive root. 5. Rename isolinux.cfg at drive root to syslinux.cfg 6. Run syslinux.exe -ma with your drive letter. 7. Unmount it (safe removal) and enjoy! Steps are taken from .bat linked from here: http://www.megaleecher.net/Bootable_Kaspersky_Rescue_Disk If instead you need to write CD content into _internal_ flash drive of your platform, you should: 1. Boot your platform with any live media of Linux or Windows. 2. Perform steps above against internal flash. 3. It could be easier to temporarily remove the flash and access it from your desktop.
I am trying to reinstall the os for crossbeam firewalls. You apparently have to use syslinux to reinstall it. I have no idea how to that. I have a tar.gz file that has everything on there I need, just have no idea where to start. Hi! Could you post the direct link to update file? Does the firewall have VGA out or COM port? Try just unpack tar.gz and skip steps 3-5. Best regards, Sergii

I'm sorry for misposting. Could you actually post the output of tar tzf (list of content) here? It's small enough (for just a firewall), it contains no your information and no someone's trade secrets. Then I and others could figure out instructions for installing genuine OS. Tar for Windows is here: http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/downlinks/tar-bin.php -----New Message----- Good day Scott, Is there any chance of sharing the product's name? If not, did its vendor send you PXELINUX, in the hopes that you could PXE-boot it, or did you send you files to put on a USB stick to boot the firewall hardware from? - Shao Miller
