Syslinux - Apr 2004 - Compiling Fedora core-1 kernel source

Hi,
  The kernel source code that comes with Fedora Core-1 is not 
compiling.  It is failing while linking.  I tried standard kernel 
compilation procedures
  make mrproper
  make xconfig
  make dep
  make bzImage

The last step failed.  Anybody having idea about how can I get a kernel 
source that will compile with Fedora Core-1 or with the existing one I 
should try something else.
