Speex dev - Jun 2005 - Purpose of function speex_jitter_get_pointer_timestamp(...)

What is the purpose of the speex_jitter_get_pointer_timestamp(...)
function. When would I want to use it?

I conclude from the source code that it gives me the "current" pos (in
time?) of the jitter buffer, but I don't realize the reason for wanting
to retrieve this value.
