I think running the 4 kbps mode on a Palm should be possible. Basically,
you need to compile with --enable-fixed-point (or directly defining the
FIXED_POINT macro). It's already fast enough to work in real-time on a
400 MHz ARM, but I'm not completely sure about 144 MHz (8 kbps runs
fine), so some optimization may be necessary.
For now, not all floating point operations have been converted to
fixed-point, but there are very few remaining (they can be emulated
without loss of speed).
