brookmeyer & crowley CI for median survival time
Hi all,
Does anyone know if there is an implementation of Brookmeyer & Crowley's
confidence interval for the median survival time in R?
Reference : Brookmeyer & Crowley, "A confidence interval for the median
survival time" (1982) Biometircs
Thanks in advance for your help,

Rsync on shares issue
I am using Rsync in a Windows environment and its working perfectly. I am running into an issue where on one of my Windows servers there is a folder called "share" rsync sees this and copies it exactly the way its supposed to. Here is my rsync command:
rsync -auvrlt --progress --stats --delete "/cygdrive/v/SHARE/" "jaxback02::u/%computername%/SHARE/

Providing Telewest in the UK with per extens ion outbound callerID
Would be nice to do both (type 2 and 3 I believe in Oftel terms), but I'd
accept just our DDI if that was all I could get.

Discrepancy in the regression coefficients for Cox regression - PBC data set
Hi,
When I run the following Cox proportional hazards model on the Mayo clinic's
PBC data set (given in the "survival" package), the regression coefficients
do not agree with the results presented in Table 4.6.3 (p. 195) of Fleming &
Harrington's book.
library(survival)
data(pbc)
ans.cox <- coxph(Surv(time, status) ~ log(bili) + log(alb) + age +

Just in case the main list hadn't seen this (I'm trying to clear out

Comparing models in multiple regression and hierarchical linear regression
I don?t know if this question properly belongs on this list, but I?ll ask it here because I?ve been using R to run linear regression models, and it is only in using R (after switching from using SPSS) that I have discovered the process of fitting a linear model. However, after reading Crowley (2002), Fox (2002), Verzani (2004), Dalgaard (2002) and of course searching the R-help archives I cannot

[LLVMdev] Running Objective-C in the JIT
Thanks for the info!
Yes, the problem is certainly that the JITed code isn't registering
its classes, but even after digging through all the runtime code I
can't find anything that seems suitable for doing this.. The nearest
function I could find was _objc_init_image, but that seems to be for
win32!
I assume that the way it works must be that clang creates some static
data structures

Managing private key files; content=>file vs. binary content.
Hi all,
Hi all,
We use puppet for, amongst other things, managing the private-key
files needed for things like SSL certificates for HTTPS web servers.
We have a few constraints on how these are handled, and changes in
recent versions of puppet are making this harder than it perhaps ought
to be to implement, so I''m curious to know how others are handling it.

Propensity score modeling using machine learning methods. WAS: RE: LARS for generalized linear models
There may be benefits to having a machine learning method that
explicitly targets covariate balance. We have experimented with
optimizing the weights directly to obtain the best covariate balance,
but got some strange solutions for simple cases that made us wary of
such methods.
Machine learning methods that yield calibrated probability estimates
should do well (e.g. those that optimize the

Generating a stochastic matrix with a specified second dominant eigenvalue
Hi,
Given a positive integer N, and a real number \lambda such that 0 < \lambda
< 1, I would like to generate an N by N stochastic matrix (a matrix with
all the rows summing to 1), such that it has the second largest eigenvalue
equal to \lambda (Note: the dominant eigenvalue of a stochastic matrix is
1).
I don't care what the other eigenvalues are. The second eigenvalue is

Sounds like good news.

Questions regarding biplot
Hi,
I am using "biplot" (in package "stats") to visualize the results of some
PCA analyses. When I use scale=0 in the biplot function, it draws X (PC1)
and Y (PC2) axes, with the scales multiplied by sqrt(N), where N is the
sample size. Is there a way to change these scales so that the actual
values of PC1 and PC2 are shown, instead of multiplication by sqrt(n)?

Documentation of biplot for princomp
Hi,
I think that the documentation for the biplot function `biplot.princomp' is
inconsistent with what it actually does. Here is what the documentation
states:
pc.biplot
If true, use what Gabriel (1971) refers to as a "principal component
biplot", with lambda = 1 and observations scaled up by sqrt(n) and variables
scaled down by sqrt(n). Then inner products between

LARS for generalized linear models
Hi,
Is there an R implementation of least angle regression for binary response
modeling? I know that this question has been asked before, and I am also
aware of the "lasso2" package, but that only implements an L1 penalty, i.e.
the Lasso approach.
Madigan and Ridgeway in their discussion of Efron et al (2004) describe a
LARS-type algorithm for generalized linear models. Has
