Does anybody know how to control the appearance of the end of the line in lattice?
Hi All, I am plotting vertical lines using xyplot in lattice and type="h". It works well, but the problem is that the tops of the lines are convex and the bottoms are concave. Is there a way to flatten the tops and bottoms? Here's my code: Source<-matrix(1:30,10,3) colnames(Source)<-c("x","y1","y2") Source<-data.frame(Source) xyplot(y2+y1~x,

ERROR need finite 'ylim' values
Hello: I use R with MAC I have a simple data table, numeric and text columns, named dt. The table is imported through read.csv from a csv file. Row numbers are automatically assigned, header is set to TRUE. there are 599 rows and several columns. I am trying to plot using the stripchart command: one numeric variable (say dt$fnatg) vs a text column (say dt$pat). dt$pat contains one of 3 values:

[lattice] lines for stripplot (like dotplot) or jitter for dotplot?
I'd like to use stripplot for some plots because I want to use the jitter parameter. On the other hand, I'd like to use dotplot because I'd like to have the horizontal lines that it includes. dotplot doesn't have a jitter option and I'm not having any success with getting panel.grid(h=-1) with stripplot. Can anyone show me how to make dotplot-like lines on a stripplot? Or

graphing help
Hello all, Does anyone know how to make R graph the x-axis in descending order? I am all set in creating a vertical bar chart using either the plot or the xychart (in lattice), but I need the x-axis in descending order. I have tried resorting the data but apparently R automatically graphs the x-axis in ascending order. I have multiplied the data used for the x-axis by -1 and this works but now

Problem with package sem
Hi experts, I just started to learn R today, and tried to work with an add-on package sem. I have a version of 2.3.1 on MacOS X 10.4.6 with sem put under /Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Versions/2.3/Resources/library However when I typed library(sem) the following error showed up: Error in library(sem) : 'sem' is not a valid package -- installed < 2.0.0? Why is this? Thank

Collineariy Diagnostics
Hi, and thanks for your help in order to do collinearity analysis I downloaded the perturb package. I run a lm (regression) and on that the ??calldiag?? commad to get condition numbers but i get the following message: the variable XY with modus ??numeric?? was not found (it does the same with all predictors despite all variables are numeric and exists). Can anyone tell me how can I go arround

R question for Stata users
Hi... In Stata, there is the ability to display scatter plots with data points at the same (x,y) location, using the 'jitter' command of the twoway scatter stata command. Anyone know of a way that I can do the equivalent thing in R? For non-Stata readers, if jitter is enabled in stata, and n-points would be at the same (x,y) location, the points are offset a bit (according to

overlap dot plots with box plots
Hi, I am new in R and would like to dot plot my real data points from different categories and put box plot overlapping. To give a feeling of the distribution of my data and the real values. I managed to that in excel but it takes a lot of time and it makes the program crash quite often! http://n4.nabble.com/file/n2134530/Excelversion.jpg I managed to get a box plot and a dot plot of my three

question on jitter in plot.Predict in rms
Dear colleagues, I have a question regarding controlling the jitter when plotting predictions in the rms package. Below I've simulated some data that reflect what I'm working with. The model predicts a continuous variable with an ordinal score, a two-level group, and a continuous covariate. Of primary interest is a plot of the group by score interaction, where the score is the ordinal

how to use condition indexes to test multi-collinearity
Dear Users, I try to calculate condition indexes and variance decomposition proportions in order to test for collinearity using colldiag() in perturb package, I got a large index and two variables with large variance decomposition proportions, but one of them is constant item.I also checked the VIF for that variable, the value is small. The result is as follows: Index intercept V1

Stripchart and Boxplots side-by-side
Dear all - With the following code I get Boxplots and Stripcharts in one Plot: with(InsectSprays, boxplot(count ~ spray, boxwex = 0.3)) with(InsectSprays, stripchart(count ~ spray, col = "red", vertical = TRUE, add = TRUE)) But the dots from the stripchart are plotted over the Boxes. Is there any possibility to have Stripchart and Boxplots side-by-side, i.e. to move boxplots and/or

(CAR) Scatterplot and problems (?) with abline
Network Blitz I'm trying to generate a graph to summarize Interest Rate Parity. This involves a scatterplot of x against y where the x and y limits are set so to center the graph on 0,0 and then adding each axis line and a 45 degree line. Using CAR's scatterplot (sample code below) everything except the axes plot fine: scatterplot( Interest.Rate.Dif ~ ForPrm| profit,

Q about how to use Anova.mlm
Hi, Am newish to stats and R, so I certainly appreciate any help. Basically I have 50 inidividuals whom I have 6 photos each of their optic nerve head. I want to check that the orientation of the nerve head is consistent, ie the 6 replicates show minimal or preferably no rotation differences. I'll draw an arbitrary line between some blood vessels (same reference in each set of replicates) and

glm and plot.effects
Dear R-helpers, I don't see a difference between the following two plots of effect objects, which I understand should be different. What am I missing? require(doBy) require(effects) data(budworm) m1 <- glm(ndead/20 ~ sex + log(dose), data=budworm, weight=ntotal, family=binomial) m1.eff <- all.effects(m1) plot(m1.eff, rescale.axis = FALSE, selection = 2, main = 'rescale =

plotting overlapping data points
I am just learning to use R. The data from my current project are integer-valued. I am able to create scatterplots, but I would like to have some indication on the plots when multiple data points overlap at the same x-y coordinate. SPSS uses 'petals', and other packages use jitter. Are there similar options in R? I have not been able to find any in the documentation. Thanks very much,

How Rcmdr or na.exclude blocks TukeyHSD
Dear R-Helpers, I was calling the TukeyHSD function and not getting confidence intervals or p-values. It turns out this was caused by missing data and the fact that I had previously turned on R Commander (Rcmdr). John Fox knew that Rcmdr sets na.action to na.exclude, which causes the problem. If you have this problem, you can either exit Rcmdr before calling TukeyHSD or you can set na.action to
