Post hoc comparissons
Hi Folks,
I have been using the TukeyHSD to conduct post hoc comparisons. The challenge is I have two interacting factors, one of which has 6 levels (cover types), and the other 2 (study areas). As a result interpreting the post hoc comparisons is difficult when you get a list of every possible combination (66 of them). In grad school I was using SAS and I recall most of the post hoc tests

winbindd: Exceeding 200 client connections, no idle connection found
Hello! This is my first email to the Samba mailing list :)
We have been having an issue on our servers where the winbind service
begins to utilize 100%~ CPU and logs the following error:
*winbindd: Exceeding 200 client connections, no idle connection found*
We have been running Samba *3.6.3-0.52.5*, however when originally
investigating the problem, it was found that *3.6.3-0.58.1* included a

Phrase "package writer" in R-exts
In a conversation with a programmer new to writing R packages, he mentioned that he was very confused by phrase "package writer" used in the document, and said that he "[was] literally imagining some sort of function that writes something related to packages".
I can see his point: not only is it confusing, but I think it's also bad English (one wouldn't say "the

newbie needs help using R as solver
Greetings
I'm a total newbie in R and I'm trying to make a comparisson of Excel
and R in the fields of:
- optimisation modeling (using solver)
- decision trees
- simulation modeling
as described in Winston, Wayne L.: Practical Management Science.
for optimisation modeling in Excel I would normaly use solver. In R
however I can't seem to be able to find the solution. I've

adjusted means and adjusted standard errors after ANOVA
I am trying to obtain adjusted means and standard errors for a three way
ANOVA
I have three effects, two continuous; fire frequency and annual
precipitation, and one categorical; soil type in an unbalanced design.
I am testing the effect of annual precipition (AP), soil type (ST), and fire
frequency (FF) on stem count (SCt)
My data table looks as such:
ST
FF
AP
SCt

Win 2K Compatibility
Dear Sir or Madam
We are currently using Samba 2.0.5a on an IRIX 6.5 Unix server to allow NT 4
clients to map to the server. Will this version of Samba support a Windows
2000 professional client on:
a. A Windows NT 4.0 domain.
b. A Windows 2000 domain.
Can you recommend the version of Samba required, if the above is not
supported.

centos + kswapd0 error
Hi all
I have a box with Centos 4 and qmail with all pathches. since Last month i
have had twice the same problem. The process kswapd0 uses all my resources
of CPU and RAM memory and the consequence is that my local queue grow up and
the box go slow too.
The first time i guess the problem was the version of the kernel, so i did
an upgrade form kernel.i686 2.6.9-5.0.3.EL to kernel.i686

Canceling a specific effect
Is there a way to cancel a specific effect? For instance; Effects are
added to the queue. Before actually processing the effect, I''d like to
check a condition & cancel the effect if necessary.
Here''s the code excerpt:
var menu = {
toggleText: function(element,toggle) {
var vis = $(element+''Text'').visible();
if (toggle && !vis)

PCMCIA not working on IBM Thinkpad r40
I am running Centos 4 on a Thinkpad r40 and it does not see any pcmcia
cards. I know the socket is good because I had it working with Fedora
Core 3. A funny thing though, once I updated my fedora kernel to a
certain rev. (don't remember the version) the card socket no longer
worked. Going back to an un-upgraded install of Fedora 3 worked.
Has anyone seen this problem and worked this

adjusted R squared
I have run several glm models and would like to obtain the
adjusted R squared for the model. What is the appropriate command for
obtaining an adjusted R squared?

Is there a function in R to evaluate the adjusted AIC or other statistc where overdispersion existed in GLMs?
Dear friends,
As we all know, the usual model selection criteria(e.g.deviance,AIC...) in
GLMs isn't very good for selecting the best model when overdispersion exist,
so we need to adjust the corresponding statistic,see(Fitzmaurice,G.M.

is there any multiple log-rank tests function with adjusted P-value implemented ?
Hello R users:
I wonder if any function are available for multiple log-rank tests with
adjusted P-values. I found survdiff( ) only give pooled tests but
without pairwise ones. Thanks a lot !
best wishes

Royston Parmar adjusted survival curves using flexsurv
Dear R
I am trying to understand and use the flexible parametric survival model
suggested by Royston and Parmar.
However I am stuck trying to plot the adjusted survival curves for
different covariates in the following code:
library(flexsurv)
library(graphics)
spl <- flexsurvspline(Surv(futime, fustat) ~ rx+ecog.ps+resid.ds+age, data
= ovarian, k=2, scale="odds")
spl

rms: getting adjusted R^2 from ols object
How can I extract the adjusted R^2 value from an ols object (using rms package)?
library(rms)
x <- rnorm(10)
y <- x + rnorm(10)
ols1 <- ols(y ~ x)
Typing "ols1" displays adjusted R^2 among other things, but how can I
assign it to a variable? I tried str(ols1) but couldn't see where to
go from there.
Thanks,
Mark Seeto

Adjusted Rate Ratios in R
I am trying to calculate Poisson regression based adjusted rate ratios in R,
but R's default in glm does not code the intercept as the global rate. In
SAS I use "cell means" coding so that the intercept is the global rate, but
I do not know how to do this in R. If anyone knows a way to make glm use
"cell means", or an how to find adjusted rate ratios I would be grateful.

effects package for adjusted predictions
Dear R experts,
I am trying to use John Fox's effects package to conduct some
post-estimation analysis.? I think it is a great package for graphing
predictions after GLM type models.? However, I am having problems
figuring out how to produce an adjusted mean.? For example, using the
following two lines, I can get predictions when phd varies from 1 to
5, female set to 0 and enrol set to its
