windows 7 unable to join domain
Hi, I'm currently running Samba3x-3.3.8-0.51 on CentOS 5.5. I currently have many Windows XP clients associated with the domain and behaving correctly. However, I am unable to join a Windows 7 PC. I receive "The specified network name is no longer available." I've verified that DNS is configured correctly, and as stated XP machines have no problem joining. Per some googling,

I've defined the following for objects of a class called jml summary.jml <- function(object, ...){ tab <- cbind(Estimate = coef(object), StdError = object$se, Infit = object$Infit, Outfit = object$Outfit) res <- list(call = object$call, coefficients = tab, N = nrow(object$Data), iter = object$Iterations) class(res) <- "summary.jml" res }

t.test in a loop
Hi All, I've been having a little trouble with creating a loop that will run a a series of t.tests for inspection, Below is the code i've tried, and some checks i've looked at. I've used the get(paste()) idea as i was told previously that the use of the eval should try and be avoided. I've run a single syntax to check that my systax is correct and works without any problems

Est. Component Size with AIC/BIC under Gamma Distribution
Dear all, I am trying to model number of samples from a given series. The series are modelled according Gamma function. In order to estimate the # samples, I use BIC/AIC with MLE (computed from dgamma function). Here is the code I have. __BEGIN__ mlogl <- function( x_func, theta_func, samp) { # computing log_likelihood return( - sum(dgamma(samp, shape = x_func, scale=theta_func, log

(OT) Anyone Ever Use http://shopfort1.com as a Broker
I have no affiliation with them but if their quotes are accurate then they provide quite a few options as far as TDM connectivity and realtime pricing. If you do not want a phone call from a sales person, give them a BTN that goes to an IVR or something. They call no matter which box you click as far as "contact me now" "contact me later" "just window shopping".

With all of this hokey-pokey surrounding licensing and mac addresses, I wonder if this outfit is actually still in compliance with the terms of their license for this software, whatever it may be? If the software licensed to run only on Machine X and Machine X has now been junked and replace by Machine Y, then isn't the

OT: workstation recommends: Thinkmate?
I'm looking to buy a new workstation, and it looks like Thinkmate makes what I need -- their vsx "virtually silent" variety. I hestitate because I wasn't happy with a laptop I bought a few years ago from a small outfit that sold Linux boxes exclusively. Does anyone have experience with Thinkmate, and in particular, the VSX line? If the later, is it really quiet. I run Centos

Very Cool.........Asterisk Made Wired Magazine
Hi Guys, The article "They've Got Your number" in the Dec 2004 issue of WIRED magazine mentions Asterisk PBX (on p.100). The article is about phone phreaks hijacking cell phones with Bluetooth technology along with spoofing CID to pull some clandestine hacks on the PSTN. Anyhow, Asterisk is mentioned as the PBX of choice for an outfit: Telephreaks.org out of Florida that has built

"throwing out the old": does Rails really not support...
Frankly I''m losing tolerance for the MS "stack." And I''m intrigued by Rails. But in my outfit I''m not only the web person, but also the application person and the DBA. So when I read that Rails doesn''t want to handle things like "compound keys" I blew right by those claims, thinking, "no way." But before I go deeper, I

One of the build options for a laptop I'm looking at buying is DVD vs Blu-Ray. I've never used Blue-ray before, so is there some compelling reason, as a Linux guy, to want to get Blu-ray?

Higher quality narrowband streaming options
Hi, Up until now, I've been providing narrowband streams at 24kbps MP3. We've reluctantly been using MP3 instead of say Ogg Vorbis due to wider support. But it's getting to the point where low bitrate MP3 doesn't really cut it anymore. With technologies like AACPlus out there in common usage, people have come to expect better and one can hardly blame them. So I thought
