multiple colors within same line of text
Hi, I'm interested in using mtext(), but with the option of having multiple colors in the same line of text. For example, creating a line of text where: Red is red and blue is blue How do you create a text argument that lets you do this within mtext()? Thanks, Andrew MGH Cancer Center [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

mosaicplot(formula, data)--- bugged?
I have been tinkering with mosaicplot() and friends as a way of learning R. As part of this, I've written a pair.table() method for mosaic matrices, and would like to extend mosaicplot to work with loglin and logln (MASS) objects. I'm using R 1.4.0 on Win 98. I've been trying to figure out the formula interface, and think there's a bug, but not sure how to find it, yet alone fix

odds ratios for n-way tables: seeking an *apply-able method
I'm looking for a way to generalize the calculation of (log) odds ratios for 2 x 2 x {strata} frequency tables in vcd::oddsratio() to R x C x {strata} tables. For an R x C table, F, odds ratios can be defined in several ways; one simple way, particularly for tables with ordered factors, is to calculate the set of continuation odds ratios, based on the (R-1)x(C-1) set of 2x2 tables with

one question about title
Dear, Thanks for your help. My question is the title can not completely show in the drawing area when the title is too long. So, I need to change the value of cex.main each time. Could you help me to control the title display area? the title is too long for a graph
Hi All, I have a problem of putting long titles on a graph: for example, x= seq(1:100) y=seq(1:100) plot(x,y,main="p=0.05:A-B=3,C-D=10,D-E=100,A-F=2,AFR-E=3,ACE-D=1,ADEF-M=0,AED-E=10,DE-F=3,AB-J=4,AC-J=10,ED-F=1,ED-B=4,AF-B=10,CD-S=10,AM-C=4") R seems not able to print the whole title. The title content might be changing and thus I don't know how long it is beforehand. Is there a

Legend in xyplot two columns
Dear R-Help I have some trouble to set the legend in a xyplot into two rows. The code below gives me the legend in the layout I am looking for, I just rather have it in two rows. library(lattice) schluessel <- list( points=list( col="red", pch=19, cex=0.5 ), text=list(lab="John"), lines=list(col="blue"),

read.delim problem with trailing spaces
I'm trying to read a comma delimited dataset that uses '.' for NA. I found that if the last field on a line was a missing '.' it was not read as NA, but just a '.', and the life variable was made a factor. The data looks like this, income,imr,region,oilexprt,imr80,gnp80,life Afghanistan,75,400.0,4,0,185.0,.,37.5 Algeria,400,86.3,2,1,20.5,1920,50.7

line jump in plot legend title
Hello, In order to reduce the width of my legend in a plot I introduced line jumps in the title. Here's the problem; the legend box hasn't adapted accordingly and part of the title is printed out of the frame. See the example below: plot(1:10) legend("bottomright", bg="white", fill=c(7,8,12,13,19),

color palette for points, lines, text / interactive Rcolorpicker?
I'm looking for a scheme to generate a default color palette for plotting points, lines and text (on a white or transparent background) with from 2 to say 9 colors with the following constraints: - "red" is reserved for another purpose - colors should be highly distinct - avoid light colors (like "yellow"s) In RColorBrewer, most of the schemes are designed for area fill

Customised legend in lattice
Hi List, Am trying to customize a legend in trellis: Draws 2x5 lines in 5 colors and 2 linetypes. I would like to add two more items to the legend showing the key for the line types above the colored legend. Any suggestions welcome - thanks Herry ############################# #Following example code: library(gregmisc) trellis.device(bg="white") i1=0 i2=-1.89767506 i3=-1.17087085

strwidth and strheight for rotated text
Dear All, I would like to plot text with a box around it. I used strwidth and strheight to compute the size of the box which is plotted with rect: z <- rnorm(10) # horizontal text works plot(rnorm(10)) x1 <- 5 y1 <- 0 label <- "Label" cha <- paste(" ", label, " ", sep = "") xh <- strwidth(cha, cex = par("cex")) yh <-

Plotting question: Problem with strwidth in 2.7.1
R users, I have a problem with function strwidth in 2.7.1. I'm trying to set the plot margins in a way that horizontal column labels will fit to the graph. tmp.t is a list of data.frame objects. This code works well in 2.6.0. ...snip.. library(gplots) for (i in names(tmp.t)) { bmp(filename=paste(i, "_", Sys.Date(), ".bmp", sep=""), width=1038,

Underlined font
Hi all, Is there a simple way to place underlined text in a plot? Hershey vector fonts seem to have a single underscore character ("\\ul"), but no underlined font. Plotmath (ref: ?plotmath) comes very close with: R> plot(0:1,0:1, type="n") R> text(.1, .1, quote(bar(Hello))) but that's overlined, not underlined. Also: R> text(.2, .2,

Adding text (coefts) to pairs panels
Hi, First of all, thanks for the efforts of all the developers and contributors - I'm very new to R and at the moment am just using it to create some graphics, but it seems to be quite powerful. I've googled the archives and wasn't able to find anyhting that dealt with this problem, so would appreciate any suggestions/tips. In a pairs plot I'd like to plot a linear regression line

How to vectorize

The code bellow works fine. plot(1:10,1:10) text(c(2,4,8),c(2,4,8),labels=c(expression(italic(phantom(0)^{78}*Ge)), expression(italic(phantom(0)^{137}*Cs)), expression(italic(phantom(0)^{129*m}*Te))), cex=3 ) But, since I have a lot of

loess: choose span to minimize AIC?
Is there an R implementation of a scheme for automatic smoothing parameter selection with loess, e.g., by minimizing one of the AIC/GCV statistics discussed by Hurvich, Simonoff & Tsai (1998)? Below is a function that calculates the relevant values of AICC, AICC1 and GCV--- I think, because I to guess from the names of the components returned in a loess object. I guess I could use
