using virtual memory in R
Hi, Im using R-2.8.1 on windows vista and have 4GB RAM. Im trying to run LDA from the MASS package on a fairly large dataset and keep running out of memory ("Cannot allocate vector of size ...) Ive tried freeing up as much memory as possible with gc(). I tried using the ff package but that would need modifications to the way LDA accesses the memory mapped data. The error I get is

Problems authenticating Ubuntu 8.04 client (gdm) against Samba (Ubuntu 8.04) domain server
Hello, Does anyone have a working pam configuration that allows gdm logins? My current config works with ssh and bash logins. I'd like gdm to work with usernames like DOMAIN\\USERNAME. MORE DETAIL: ------------------- I'm trying to get a Linux client (Ubuntu 8.04) to authenticate against a Samba domain controller (also Ubuntu8.04). WindowsXP clients work fine with the samba

wbinfo -u and -g work, getent passwd works, getent group DOES NOT WORK
Hi, I'm trying to get some Ubuntu8.04 clients to authenticate to an Ubuntu8.04 Samba domain controller. Everyone is running Samba 3.0.28a. Side question: should I upgrade to 3.2? Keep in mind that means finding binaries for ubuntu or compiling from source for a server and 20 clients. Basically wbinfo -u and -g work, getent passwd works, getent group DOES NOT WORK. My domain is called

Easy method to set user-mode virtual memory space in Windows Vista and 7
I thought I'd share this with the list since it appears to provide a quick fix to some memory problems, and I haven't see it discussed in relation to R. To reallocate virtual memory from kernel-mode to user-mode in 32-bit Vista or Windows 7 one can use the increaseuserva boot option value. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa906211.aspx On my 4GB Vista machine, R is now able to

Strange paste, string or package problem?

Using OS Ubuntu 7.10 Step 1) Make an R package using the package.skeleton() command with only these two functions: error <- function(){ cmd <- paste(" -a ",1," -a ",1," -a ",1, " -a ",1," -a

Hi, I spent a lot of time with Puppet Enterprise and like it. Lately, I''ve been doing Open Source Puppet. The question has come up: does OSP have any kind of web-facing methodology for applying one or more patterns against swaths of instances? Do tell me we don''t have to roll our own with cli going to a web front-end we have to design. Stuart -- You received this

Appending diagnostic information to all lines sent to stdout and stderr
Dear All I'm logging the stdout and stderr of an R program into two separate files (stderr.txt and stdout.txt) using sink() I would like to append extra information such as "date", "memory usage" etc to every line of output that goes to stdout or stderr. Security Logging
Hello list, I've got a client who's weak sip passwords are being guessed by remote entities who then connect to their server and use it to wardial large swaths of numbers. When they start receiving complaints, they call me and I add the ip address of the remote user to the iptables drop list. At the same time, my own personal asterisk server, using strong sip passwords, has seen

Optimizing!
So now that there aren't going to be any more wild branches affecting large swaths of the code before 1.0, now is a good time to really start looking at optimization. (Actually, I still need to implement CBR, which will involve a branch and code changes. But this should not affect any of the code where there's serious speed-critical work to do). It seems like a month or two back I

overlapping/interleaved histogram help
NOTE: I have read the FAQ, Verzani's book, Rtips, and googled. For various reasons I don't want to use a density plot when comparing two distributions, I would prefer to have interleaved histograms over the same ranges. In addition to this, I would also like to normalize the two histograms so that both of their max Y values are the same (so I can compare relative distributions within

OpenSSL Update - not a security update???
Hey all, Sorry to jump in here but out of curiosity, has the patch actually been back ported to earlier versions of OpenSSL regarding the recent DROWN attack? I've checked the RPM change log and nothing's been mentioned relating to CVE-2016-0800 (I think that was the CVE number). Or is this thread not relating to that vulnerability? Kind regards James Washington > On 7 Mar 2016, at
