stacking data frames with different variables
Hi All, If I need to stack two data frames, I can use rbind, but it requires that all variables exist in both sets. I can make that happen, but other stat packages would figure out where the differences were, add the missing variables to each, set their values to missing and stack them. Is there a more automatic way to do that in R? Below is an example program. Thanks, Bob # Top data frame has

Using plyr::dply more (memory) efficiently?
Hi all, In short: I'm running ddply on an admittedly (somehow) large data.frame (not that large). It runs fine until it finishes and gets to the "collating" part where all subsets of my data.frame have been summarized and they are being reassembled into the final summary data.frame (sorry, don't know the correct plyr terminology). During collation, my R workspace RAM usage goes

poor rbind performance
Hi I rbind data frames in a loop in a cumulative way and the performance detriorates very quickly. My code looks like this: for( k in 1:N) { filename <- paste("/tmp/myData_",as.character(k),".txt",sep="") myDataTmp <- read.table(filename,header=TRUE,sep=",") if( k == 1) { myData <- myDataTmp } else{ myData

SPSS F-test on change in R square between hierarchical models
Hi, I am wondering if anyone knows how to perform an F-test on the change in R square between hierarchical models in R? SPSS provides this information and a researcher that I am working with is interested in getting this information. Alternatively, if someone knows how I can calculate the test statistic (SPSS calls it F-change?) and dfs that would be helpful as well. The output and the test I am

Looping with incremented object name and increment function
Folks, I am trying to get a loop to run which increments the object name as part of the loop. Here "fit1" "fit2" "fit3" and "fit4" are linear regression models that I have created. > for (ii in c(1:4)){ + SSE[ii]=rbind(anova(fit[ii])$"Sum Sq") + dfe[ii]=rbind(summary(fit[ii])$df) + } Error in anova(fit[ii]) : object 'fit' not found

Want to create empty vectors inside a empty data frame
Hi All, I want to create empty vectors inside an empty data frame.The name of the vectors has to come dynamically. For example if record_mean is my empty data frame,and i have say 4 categories,the category names for record mean data frame has to recmeanC1,recmeanC2,recmeanC3,recmeanC4,which will be dynamically created and which will again be inserted in my data frame's as column values.Each

Adding data.frames together
I have a series of data frames that are identical structurally, i.e. - made with the same code, but I need to add them together so that they become one, longer, data frame, i.e. - each of the slot vectors are increased in length by the length of the added data frame vectors. So if I have df1 with a slot A so that length(df1$A) = 100 and I have df2 with a slot A so that length(df2$A)=200 then I

how to apply the dummy coding rule in a dataframe with complete factor levels to another dataframe with incomplete factor levels?
Dear R helpers: Sorry to bother for a basic question about model.matrix. Basically, I want to apply the dummy coding rule in a dataframe with complete factor levels to another dataframe with incomplete factor levels. I used model.matrix, but could not get what I want. The following is an example. #Suppose I have two dataframe A and B

Combining multiple speech files into one
Dear All, I am trying to send speech across a wireless link. I want to change which speech compression/rate to use according to some algorithm that I have. To be more specific, I have a speech file. In real time, I want to keep changing at which rate speech will be sent next. Let us say, I am considering three rates. I will take the original speech file, compress it using the three rates, which

nonlinear curve fitting on a torus
Dear R users. I have data observed on the surface of a torus, and am trying to fit the nonlinear regression using the geodesic equation on a torus. Could anyone give me a helpful advise on this problem? I would definitely appreicate your reply. Sincerely, SUNGSU KIM [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Compare two dataframes
Hello, I have two dataframes DF1 and DF2 that should be identical but are not (DF1 has some rows that aren't in DF2, and vice versa). I would like to produce a new dataframe DF3 containing rows in DF1 that aren't in DF2 (and similarly DF4 would contain rows in DF2 that aren't in DF1). I have a solution for this problem (see self contained example below) but it's awkward and

Is there a way to represent the ... argument in signature?
Hi! I guess that it cant work. but maybee I am wrong. I would like to define a function rbind. > rbind function (..., deparse.level = 1) { which works only for objects of class Myclass Is it possible to use something like setMethod("rbind",signature(...="Myclass",deparse.level="numeric") This gives an error. Or should I use rbind.Myclass Eryk. Dipl. bio-chem.

stepAICc function (based on MASS:::stepAIC.default)
Dear all, I have tried to modify the code of MASS:::stepAIC.default(), dropterm() and addterm() to use AICc instead of AIC for model selection. The code is appended below. Somehow the calculations are still not correct and I would be grateful if anyone could have a look at what might be wrong with this code... Here is a working example: ## require(nlme) model1=lme(distance ~ age + Sex, data =

how to calculate the statistics of a yearly window with a rolling step as 1 day?

I add such code in library libtiff. dfsan_label lt_label = dfsan_create_label("buf_offset", 0); dfsan_set_label(lt_label, (unsigned char *)buf, size); But when i compile libtiff with "-fsanitize=dataflow" option, then there is an error as follows: ../libtiff/libtiff.so.5.2.5: undefined reference to `dfs$jbg_enc_init'

Domain DFS on new share
Hi, I am trying to configure domain DFS (I think that's the correct term) as below, using the guide on the wiki: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Distributed_File_System_(DFS)#Configure_domain-based_DFS_in_Samba I am aware that the wiki says that this doesn't quite work... however it feels to me that it's very close, nearly working, and I might be able to get it going (hopefully?!)
