Samba over SSH and pam_smb
I have an interresting situation that I am searching for a solution. I want to use pam_smb for authenticating SSH connections to a remote server. The Domain Controller I want to authenticate against is a Win NT 4.0 box located on our internal lan. An idea was given to me to set up an SSH tunnel and forward the relative ports across the internet to a local machine. All of my machines are RedHat

Rsync backup issues using relative paths and LVM snapshots
Hi everyone, I have been using rsync for years to perform off-site backups, and have recently come up with a problem that is starting to hurt my head. I am at the point where I am starting to think that there is a method to achieve my desired outcome that I cannot see. First, a bit of history. I usually just set up a script that runs many rsync commands in sequence to perform the desired

Routing/forwarding/shaping problems in v2.2.x (Long - sorry)
Greetings from a newbie! (Well, to this list anyway) I''m having a problem and I hope someone here might be able to help... I am strongly expecting an answer along the lines of "upgrade to v2.4.x", but I would REALLY preffer to avoid that for now... The setup: "Home brewed" v2.2.24 (will patch to v2.2.25 later today) with the DS8 patch applied. Currently

Improve image scaling
When Wine scales images the result looks much worse than when Windows do the same. Couldn't this be fixed with a better scaling algorithm?

Problem logging on to successfully joined domain
Hi! I'm running Debian Sarge's "Samba 2.2.3a-14" and already successfully joined the Win2k-client (SP3) to the Samba-PDC-domain. Nevertheless, I can't logon to the domain, getting the error-message: "The system cannot log you on to this domain because the system's computer account in its primary domain is missing or the password on that account is

How do I find the apparent magnitude of a galaxy from a FITS file?
Greetings! I am still new to R but have been asked to look at doing astronomy with R. I have a FITS file which contains an optical telescope image (it can be viewed in SAOimageDS9). I need to estimate the magnitude of a galaxy... and eventually other optical sources. How do I find the apparent magnitude of a galaxy from a FITS file? -- View this message in context:

R-equivalent Stata command: poisson or quasipoisson?
Hello R-help, According to a research article that covers the topic I'm analyzing, in Stata, a Poisson pseudo-maximum-likelihood (PPML) estimation can be obtained with the command poisson depvar_ij ln(indepvar1_ij) ln(indepvar2_ij) ... ln(indepvarN_ij), robust I looked up Stata help for the command, to understand syntax and such: www.stata.com/help.cgi?poisson Which simply says

SAS "/slice" and "/diff" equivalent? - Automated multiple comparisons in nlme package?
R users, What is the equivalent of SAS " '/diff' and '/slice'" in R ? I am successful in fitting the same model "PROC MIXED" fits using lme() : ###R code: model <- lme( y ~ g + h + yr + yr:h, random = ~ 1 | b, data = yield) *** SAS code: proc mixed data=yield covtest cl method=reml; class b g h yr; model y = g h yr yr*h; random b; lsmeans g / diff;

Scaling variables to positive values using scale() or performing BoxCox on negative data
Hi, I'm doing some work with linear models, and I've scaled my data using the scale(dataset) function. This was great at removing the skew, but I now can't perform the Box Cox transformation on the data set (using the boxcox(dataset) function), as the scaling has returned negative values. So my question is: how can I get the scale function to return a positive set of data (so I can

Ggplot2 equivalent of axis and problem with log scale
Dear useRs, Recently I've discorved ggplot2 and I must say that I really like it, although the documentation still is a working in progress. My first question: How can I change the position of the labels and the text of the labels? With a basic plot I would use axis(2, at = position.of.the.ticks, labels = text.at.the.ticks). Could someone provide me with an example of how to do this with

SVM module: scaling data applied to new test set without using SVM again
Hello! We are new in using R. We use the SVM module from the library ''e1071'' for training. Problem formulation: a classification has been performed using SVM module (linear kernel). Later, a new data set (test set) comparable to the training data shall be scaled in the same way as the training set (using the same scaling parameter set, but without using the SVM again

Stress in multidimensional scaling
Hello, We are trying to find a function to compute "stress" in our multidimensional scaling analysis of a dissimilarity matrix. We've used "dist()" to create the matrix and "cmdscale()" for the scaling. In order to determine the number of dimensions we would like to plot stress vs. dimensions. However, we cannot find a pre-made command. It seems that other

scaling and optim
?optim says, in describing the control parameter, 'fnscale' An overall scaling to be applied to the value of 'fn' and 'gr' during optimization. If negative, turns the problem into a maximization problem. Optimization is performed on 'fn(par)/fnscale'. 'parscale' A vector of scaling values for the parameters.

how to reconstruct the discriminant funciton from lda$prior, $means and $scaling
Hi R folks, How can I generate the discriment function from lda? I have an unbalanced data set. one class has about 25 entries and another class has about 200 entries. I used lda for classification > z<- lda(V3 ~ V1+V2, data) > z Prior probabilities of groups: 0 1 0.91111111 0.08888889 Group means: V1 V2 0 0.4445161 0.04723951 1 0.4058900
