add spline to longitudinal data - preferably similar to SAS's 'I=SM50S' routine
Hi Ruser I'm trying to replicate some SAS code. I have to add a spline to my longitudinal spaghetti plot. I have the plot, but I can't add the spline, a overall trend line. In the SAS code they use the command 'I=SM50S' and I would prefer something similar. I?m using R 2.10.1 on windows XP? I have made this working example. tolerance.pp <-

applying strsplit to a whole column
I am sorry, I'd like to split my column ("names") such that all the beginning of a string ("X..") is gone and only the rest of the text is left. x<-data.frame(names=c("X..aba","X..abb","X..abc","X..abd")) x$names<-as.character(x$names) (x) str(x) Can't figure out how to apply strsplit in this situation - without using a

About the interaction A:B
Suppose, 'fr' is data.frame with columns 'Y', 'A' and 'B'. 'A' has levels 'Aa' 'Ab' and 'Ac', and 'B' has levels 'Ba', 'Bb', 'Bc' and 'Bd'. 'Y' columns are numbers. I tried the following three sets of commands. I understand that A*B is equivalent to A+B+A:B. However, A:B in A+B+A:B is

restructuring datset problem
Hi, I've got a question regarding the restructering of a data set. What I have are municipality zip-codes and the names of 5'000 built-up areas within municipalities. The following example shows, what I would like to do: Input (Zip-Codes and Names): # CODE NAME #1 3 aaa #2 3 aab #3 3 aac #4 4 bba #5 4 bbb #6 4

Dynamic string as element name in a list
Dear all, I have a piece of code along the lines of f <- function(x) { clipname <- "LK" # but is in real determined based on info in data.frame x # other manipulations return( list(clipname=list(....))) } My intention is to do out <- f(dat) and then (in this example) having/getting out$LK which is a list in itself. Of course, it doesn't work like this, but

combinatorics again
Hi I want to enumerate all vectors of length "J", whose elements are integers in the range 1 to S, without regard to ordering. With J=S=3, the combinations are as follows: [,1] [,2] [,3] [1,] 1 1 1 [2,] 1 1 2 [3,] 1 1 3 [4,] 1 2 2 [5,] 1 2 3 [6,] 1 3 3 [7,] 2 2 2 [8,] 2 2 3 [9,] 2

[Bug 1213] ssh-keyscan exits in mid-way

Aab's patch still applies, if fuzzily, and still hardens up ssh-keyscan so that it can deal with my company's network. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching the

Accessing columns in data.frame using formula
Hello! I'm trying the hard way to use a formula, in a function, to specify the names of several important columns in a data.frame. Maybe I'm just battling to figure out the right search terms :-( This is on XP, R 1.8.1. So, for instance, wery[1:5,] V1 V2 V3 V4 V5 congr V7 V8 V9 ok RT 1 1 1 960 520 1483 c 1 r r 1 760 2 1 2 1060 450 3753 c 1 r r 1 555

Numbers that look equal, should be equal, but if() doesn't see as equal (repost with code included)
Hi! Apologies for sending the mail without any code. Apparently somewhere along the way the .R attachments got filtered out. I have included the code below as clean as possible. My original mail is below the code. Thank you again for your time. regards, Paul vincentize <- function(data, bins) { if ( length(data) < 2 ) { stop("The data is really short. Is that ok?"); }

how to not match partial names
Dear friends, How do I stop partial matching of list names? e.g., x <- list(AAAA="aaaaa", BBBBB="bbbbb") is.null(x$A) #returns FALSE even though there is no element A. if(is.null(x$A)) {result <- x$BBBB} else {result <- x$A} result #is aaaa even though there is no x$A element x <- list(CCCC="aaaaa", BBBBB="bbbbb") if(is.null(x$A))

Sorting groups in bwplot chart
Hi all, I am just curious how to sort the groups in a categorical box plot chart bwplot here is the example: d<-data.frame(sample(rep(month.abb,20), 100), runif(100,1,10)); colnames(d) <- c("Month", "Value"); bwplot(d$Month ~ d$Value); as you can see Months are not sorted alphabetically. Does anybody know ho to sort those on the chart level? Thank you Jan

subset(..., drop=TRUE) doesn't seem to work.
Hello! If I read ?subset, the workings of the argument drop (to me) seem to imply equivalence of A and B (R 1.9.0): #A dd <- data.frame(rt=rnorm(10), c=factor(gl(2,5))) dd <- subset(dd, c==1) dd$c <- dd$c[, drop=TRUE] table(dd$c) 1 5 #B dd <- data.frame(rt=rnorm(10), c=factor(gl(2,5))) dd <- subset(dd, c==1, drop=TRUE) table(dd$c) 1 2 5 0 So to lose the second level of

legend
I think I'm missing something tonight in the usage of 'legend': plot(0, type="n") legend(locator(1), month.abb[1:5], pch=15, col=1:5) gives me something similar to what I want. But legend(locator(1), month.abb[1:5], fill=T, col=1:5) gives me 5 black boxes. What am I doing wrong? Thank you, > version _ platform i686-pc-linux-gnu arch i686 os
