Book on R programming
Most books on R I come across describe running statistical procedures in R.
Any suggestions on a good book that teaches *programming* in R?
Thanks,

Fwd: Functional programming and R: Recommendations?
Hello R list members,
I have a good object-oriented programming and software engineering background
(mostly Java) and know some R.
I'd like to learn more about functional programming concepts and its support
and application in R. Do you have any recommendations (books, links etc)?
I read (and like) "Programming in Scala" (Odersky) and just ordered

Book on R's Programming Language
Can someone please recommend to me a book on the programming language that R is based on? I'm looking for a foundational book that teaches the logic of the S language. It seems that knowing the underpinnings of the language can only make using R a bit easier.
Any leads are greatly appreciated . . .
Matt.

Phil Spector's book
Since we're on the topic of book reviews, I just received Phil Spector's
new R book called "Data Manipulation with R" and it is also quite a
nice book. I haven't gone through it all and I won't give a detailed
review but I have gotten a lot out of the first 100 pages that I have
read.
Note that I've been using R for almost 1.5 years so , for me, it's a

Is there a recent book on Q-Q plot and data visualization in general?
Hi,
I want to look for some detailed explanation on the properties of Q-Q
plot and how the properties are derived.
In R, there is the following reference.
Becker, R. A., Chambers, J. M. and Wilks, A. R. (1988) The New S
Language. Wadsworth & Brooks/Cole.
Somebody also mentioned the following book chapter to me.
Chambers et al., Graphical methods for Data Analysis, Ch.6.

Hello,
Is R very compatible with a Mac? A colleague of mine indicated that
everyone he knows with a Mac has problems with R.
What can you tell me about using R with a Mac. What do I need to download?
I have downloaded the basic R package.
Thanks,

Running an ANOVA with a BY
I have a simple 1 way anova coded like
summary(ANOVA1way <- aov(Value ~ WellID, data = welldata))
How can I use the BY function to do this ANOVA for each group using another
variable in the dataset?? I tried coding it like this, but it doesn't seem
to work.
summary(ANOVA1way <- by(welldata, Analyte, function(x) aov(Value ~ WellID,
data = welldata)))
In SAS I would code it like this:
