barplot: different colors for the bar and the strips
Hi, I am using barplot and would like to know if it is possible to have bars filled with one color while use a different color for the shading lines. The following code colors the shading lines, leaving the bars in white: barplot(1:5, col=c(1:5), density=c(1:5)*5) while the colors are applied to the bars when density is removed. barplot(1:5, col=c(1:5)) I did check ?barplot and found the

Barplot legend position
Dear useRs, I'm trying to create a barplot like so: x=matrix(1:10,2,5) barplot(x,leg=c("left","right"),besid=T) The legend is placed in default position topright, however the data are plotted there too. I tried controlling the legend position by adding x="topleft" but this results in an error that x matches multiple formal arguments. Leaving out the legend

barplot, different color for shading lines and bar
Dear all, might there be a modified barplot function out there which allows the user to specify a fill color for the bars and independent parameters for the overlaid shading lines ? Currently, when I specify density and col, the fill color for the bars is white. Thanks! Markus [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

barplot fill patterns
Dear R-helpers, I will like to know if there is a way to generate a stacked column graph using both patterns and colors to fill the bars. I have many categories for the number of color available in R, so I will like R to start with solid colors and then use patterns an colors. I have been using barplot and some code that I found in the archives, but I am still having bars with the

barplot() using beside=TRUE and the density argument
Hi I am using barplot() to draw some barplots, with a matrix as the data so that multiple bars are drawn for each data point. I want to use the argument "beside=TRUE" to juxtapose the bars instead of stacking them. If I execute: barplot(data,names.arg=names,density=c(20,10),beside=FALSE) I get the expected behaviour i.e. the bottom part of the column is shaded 20 lines per inch, the

modifing barplot
Hi, I would like to modify how barplot .... plots. For reasons only my supervisor comprehends i need to do the crisscross lines in the bar thicker. If i use lwd=2 the y-axis is thicker, (i use the option beside = TRUE) but nothing else is affected by this parameter - it seems. I looked at the barplot.r code but i am afraid i don't quite understand it so ..... i am at loss. I am using

help on barplots
Hello, I am a beginner with R and I would need some help with doing barplots. My problem is that I would like to include both diffrent colors of the bars and precence/absence of shading lines in the barplots. When reading in the help file about the "col" command it states: col: a vector of colors for the bars or bar components. By default, grey is used if 'height'

Reverse legend label order in barplot
Hi list, I've thus far not found a solution to my problem and hope someone can help. I have a data matrix and wish to plot a stacked bar plot using barplot(). This is simple enough, but I have a problem with the legend labels being in the reverse order from what I want. The default appears to have labels ascending bottom-to-top reflecting bottom-to-top sub-bars, but I would like the

barplot: border color when stacked
Dear R-users, I am using R version 2.10.1 under windows. In a barplot, I want to mark one of the bars with a special border color. For example: barplot(c(3, 7, 11), border = c(NA, "red", NA)) But how to do this when the bars are stacked? for example: barplot(matrix(1:6, ncol=3)) # border of second bar (i.e. the one with total height = 7) should be red again, I try: barplot(matrix(1:6,

how do I draw such a barplot?
Hi, I cannot figure out how to draw a certain plot: could someone help me out? I have this data.frame from a survey my.data that looks like something like this: col1 col2 col3 col4 1 5 5 4 5 2 3 5 3 1 3 2 3 4 5 4 3 1 1 2 5 5 5 4 5 6 4 2 5 5 .... Each row represents a single questionnaire

texture in barplots?
Dear R list, For some reason I am unable to access neither search.r-project.org, nor http://finzi.psych.upenn.edu/ so I cannot search the archives for a possible answer (I Googled for this but didn't find anything). Is it possible to draw barplots using a texture instead of colors, for a black and white printer? TIA, Adrian -- Adrian Dusa Arhiva Romana de Date Sociale Bd. Schitu

Transforming simulation data which is spread across many files into a barplot
I'm an R newbie, and I'm just trying to use some of it's graphing capabilities, but I'm a bit stuck - basically in massaging the already available data into a format R likes. I have a simulation environment which produces logs, which represent a number of different things. I then run a python script on this data, and putting it in a nicer format. Essentially, the python script

Conversion from string to date type
Hi, I'm on my very first steps to R and so I hope that I do not ask a really stupid questions but I did not found it via R-Search, in the FAQ or Google (BTW, the name "R" is not a really good seekiong criterion ;-) ). I have a data file containing a table that containes dates and values like date\t value1\t value2, ... 01.03.2007\t 17\t 42\t ... 02.03.2007\t 2\t 3\t ...

Shopping Cart: SKU and Product Confusion
Hi there, I''m at a loss... I was on the #ROR channel last night and spoke to a really helpful person (Defiler) who gave me some direction on building a shopping cart. Unfortunately, I wasn''t able to successfully get to where I need to go. This is the predicament I am currently finding myself in: I''m building a shopping cart for a client''s new website. They

barplot and NA
Am I wrong that barplot is supposed to just skip NAs, and continue with the rest of the data in a matrix column? That's how I read various posts on the subject. But that's not what happens for me with R64.app (on a Mac, obviously). For example: d0 <- as.matrix(c(2,3,4)) d1 <- as.matrix(c(2,3,NA)) d2 <- as.matrix(c(2,NA,4)) d3 <- as.matrix(c(NA,3,4)) barplot(d0) barplot(d1)

Adding bars to the right of existing ones using barplot
I'm trying to create a barplot that has two sets of data next to each other. I'm using barplot with the add=TRUE option, but this simply adds the second dataset on top of the first, obscuring it. How do I add the new data to the right on the existing barplot so that both sets are visible? I've been playing with all sorts of option and reading the list archives with no
