character position
Hi,
I'm not being able to capture a position of a 'string' in a character
string.
In this example: 'There are 20 species in this grid'
I would like to capture the string (number) after 'are' and before
'species'. Consider they do not change. I wouldn't like to use substr
because stop position may change.
Thanks

Out of memory - RDGAL CPLRealloc()
I got this error message.
Error in .local(.Object, ...) :
GDAL Error 2: CPLRealloc(): Out of memory allocating 16 bytes
I was trying to read 1388 jpg images (993x993) with rgdal in a loop, to store data in a data.frame. It fails to read the 1338 image.
Isn't R recycling the object?
I'm running this process in a Server machine with Win XP x64, Xeon processor, 4GB Ram. R is

grid.newpage()
Hi,
I'm trying to customize a window with 2 graphs.
I'm able to do the first one with something like this general example

bplot<-barplot(bar.values,names.arg=cf.names,width=0.5,ylab="% Area held")

how to match or merge data.frames in this case...
Hi,
I'm trying to match two data frames in order to replace the boundary values
in a dataframe.1 with values in dataframe.2 ONLY where the pair id1 id2
matches between the two data frames.
Eg.

hexbin object to vector (shapefile)
Is it possible to convert an hexbin object like
hexbin(rep(1:100,each=100),rep(1:100,100),xbins=10)
and convert it to a vectorial (shp) format?

[LLVMdev] Trying to compile llvm-gcc to mips
Hi, well, I downloaded the head revision of llvm and llvm-gcc. As you said
it hangs at:
Formal argument #0 has unhandled type f32
/home/julio/trunk/llvm-gcc/gcc/libgcc2.c:1765: internal compiler error:
Abortado
Please submit a full bug report,
with preprocessed source if appropriate.
Actually, I don't need fp, there is any way to disable?
By the way, I'm working with a MIPS coprocessor

[LLVMdev] Trying to compile llvm-gcc to mips
And one last thing, the problem seems to be related to libcpp. Using only C
frontend will work?

I agree non-vector. If nothing else a vector of complexes seems like a
sensible concept which would be harder if a

SVM hadoop

color vectors other than gray()
I'm trying to create a graph where different cells of a grid (a shapefile)
will be painted with a color share scale, where the most easy way is to use
gray().
Can I somehow get a vector (gradient) of colors, a vector of colors with
other methods but gray()?
I'm doing this until now

Vectorial analogue of all.equal()?
Greetings All.
Once again, I am probably missing something fairly accessible,
but since I can't find it I'd welcome advice!
I have a dataframe derived from a text file of data in tabular
format. For one of the variables, say X, I want to select the
subsets which in which X equals a particular value.
Such values are given in the text file like: 2.3978953, and each
such value will occurr

Rank of a matrix?
Hello everyone,
this is a very simple question but I could not find the answer. :-(
Is there any function in R for calculating the rank of a matrix?
(In the sense of the dimension of the vectorial space that spans)
Thank you in advance!
Manuel

Export successively displayed graphics
Hello,
I am running R version 2.4.1 on Debian.
I am using some R functions which produce several graphics displayed
successively with an interactive prompt between each graph. For example,
the plot.varest (vars) function produces such output (one graph per time
series on which the VAR model is fitted). Plots on GARCH models also
produce such outputs.
Moreover, the frontend I am using for R

Font size R
Hi everyone.
I'm using this following code:
pdf(file="Fig5.pdf", width = 4.86, height = 6.29, pointsize = 10, family
='Times')
par(mfcol = c(3,2), mai = c(0.4,0.8,0,0), omi = c(0.7, 0, 0.7, 0.1));
hist( rnorm(100) )
dev.off()
When I open this in any vectorial software (like Illustrator), it says that
my font size is 7 instead of 10 that I specified.
I have tried

Graphs in Windows 95/95
Dear R-Listers,
I'm a new R user and I've got some problems with copying/saving graphs in
Windows Metafile Format.
If I copy a graph from the R window (in Enhanced Metafile Format) and then
paste it in WinWord 95, then everything is fine, apart from the fact that
a) lines become a little bit thicker when the graph is printed; and b)
dotted lines loose a little bit of resolution.
However,

Need help extracting info from XML file using XML package
I have an XML file that has within it the coordinates of some

nested rather deeply. For example, I found by trial and error that I
can extract the coordinates of one of them using functions from the
XML package:

Connecting to PostgreSQL/PostGIS from R (rgdal?)
Hello,
I've been trying every now and then to find a cross operating system
solution that would let me access PostgreSQL (and PostGIS) from R, or to
access R from PostgreSQL. I know of pl/r, which accomplishes the
latter, but has yet to be successfully ported to Windows. Similarly,
I've tried to use Rdbi and DBI, but I haven't had luck with those on
Windows either for connecting to
