three-dimensional (volumetric) estimation from x,y,z points
Dear all, I have a set of x,y,z points obtained from a lizard species and now I would like to estimate the three-dimensional use of space for this species. I know that 2D area I can estimate using adehabitat packages, but I don´t know how to estimate the volumetric space. Any help are welcome. Miltinho Brazil [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Hi Francois, Thanks for your quick response. Actually, I had already done that... sudo apt-get install libpoppler-cpp-dev Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done libpoppler-cpp-dev is already the newest version (0.41.0-0ubuntu1.1). 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 107 not upgraded. Therefore, I assume I have this installed. Best

interactive rotatable 3d scatterplot
I would like to create a 3d scatterplot that is interactive in the sense that I can spin it on its axes to better visualize some PCA results I have. What are the options in R? I've looked at RGL and perhaps it will suffice but it wasn't apparent from the documentation I found. Any demo scripts available for a package that will work? Mark -- Mark W. multidimensional point.in.polygon??
Hi, I seek to identify those points in/outside a multidimensional convex hull (geometry::convhulln). Any suggestions? Background just in case I'm going down a really wrong road: Given an observed data set with one dependent/observed variable (Y) and multiple (3 to 10) independent/design variables (X1, X2, ...) I want to increase the number of points by interpolating. I'm using

convhulln {geometry} output from .call
Hi All, convhulln {geometry} computes the convex hull of a set of points in n- dimensions via .call, returning the hull itself, and also "unavoidably generates a diagnostic report on an Rterm console." See the example below. I need to access the results of the diagnostic report (specifically the computed hull volume) from within R, but I cannot see how. I've looked at

convex hull for cluster analysis
Dear R gurus and users, I seem to have problem finding the right tool for plotting convex hulls over 2D plots, after a cluster analysis. In fact I would like to draw a convex hull in 2D for a generic group of points. I found a "convhulln", but this doesn't seem to give me a convex hull. Here is what I do: > library(mvtnorm) > Mean <- c(2,1) > Sigma <-

Finding convex hull?
Dear UseRs, I would like to know which function is the most efficient in finding convex hull of points in 3(or 2)-dimensional case? Functions for finding convex hull is the following: convex.hull (tripack), chull (grDevices), in.chull (sgeostat), convhulln (geometry), convexhull.xy (spatstat), calcConvexHull (PBSmapping). I also would like to know if there is a function that can be used

estimating volume from xyz points
Dear all, I have several sets of x-y-z points and I need to estimate the volume that encompass all my points. Recently I got some adivice to show the "convex hull" of my points using geometry package (see code below). But now I need to calculate the volume of my set of points. Any advice are wellcome. OpenMP and random number generation
Dear all, Now that R has OpenMP facilities, I'm trying to use it for my own package but I'm still wondering if it is safe to use random number generation within a OpenMP block. I looked at the R writing extension document both on the OpenMP and Random number generation but didn't find any information about that. Could someone tell me if it is safe or not please ? Best, Mathieu

Problem with dbFD function in FD library
Dear all, I have a question about FD package. I?m trying to calculate functional diversity indices using insect data. My trait data includes dispersal ability (0, 0.5, 1), body size (continuous) and five feeding guilds coded as in percentages (for example; 0,0,0.5,0.5,0) since some of the species can have two different feeding guilds. However, the package only calculates when I run ?calc.Frich=

Changing graphic titles when using bquote and resizing the graphic window
Dear list, I found a strange behavior of the graphic display when using bquote to set a title to a plot. The problem arise when you manually resize the graphic window using the mouse. It happens on both quartz and x11 devices. Here's a reproducible example: par(mfrow = c(1,3)) for (i in 1:3){ title <- as.expression(bquote(gamma[.(i)])) plot(1:10, main = title) } Once you ran the

Why is looping in R inefficient, but in C not?
Hey, I just read another post about calling R from C. Someone on stackoverflow (DWin makes me suspect its David W.?) referenced this: http://www.math.univ-montp2.fr/~pudlo/R_files/call_R.pdf Which made me think: Why is a loop in R bad, but in C not? And where exactly does looping cost the most? I wrote a piece of code for my bachelor's thesis where I loop from 1 to 500, and estimate a
