Package specific dependencies...
Hi, I noticed recently when installing the GDD package for R under GNU/Linux that it required the gd library (http://libgd.org/) for generating graphics. The resolution of this was to simply install the library on my system, and then GDD successfully installed without any complaints. However, the variant of GNU/Linux that I use is Gentoo, so I filed a bug requesting that a USE flag be set for

Sweave - problems with underscores in variable names...
Hi all, I've just started using the Friedrich Leisch's Sweave package to generate LaTeX reports with results of my analyses embedded as required. I've encountered a bit of a problem though in the processing of the resulting *.tex file that is as far as I can tell, down to the fact that my variable names have underscores ('_') in their names. The relevant section of code

CRAN task view for genetics
Hello to everyone! I have built CRAN task view for genetics. For now I have not submit it to CRAN yet and it can be accessible from: http://www.bfro.uni-lj.si/MR/ggorjan/software/R/Genetics.html http://www.bfro.uni-lj.si/MR/ggorjan/software/R/Genetics.ctv I have not submitted it to CRAN, since I would like first some opinion about it. Genetics is really so broad field that I belive one person

Slightly OT - use of R
I am trying to get a measure of how R compares in usage as a statistical platform compared to other software. I would guess it is the most widely used among statisticians at least by virtue of it being open source. But is there any study to which I can refer? By asking this list I am not exactly adopting a rigorous approach! Best wishes John John Logsdon

ggplot2: Choosing colours
Dear useRs, I'm trying to specify the colour of a factor with ggplot2. The example below gets me close to what I want, but it's missing a legend. Any ideas? Thanks, Thierry library(ggplot2) dataset <- data.frame(x = rnorm(40), y = runif(40), z = gl(4, 10, labels = LETTERS[1:4])) ggplot(data = dataset, aes(x = x, y = y, group = z)) + geom_point(colour = c("red",

permutation test assumption?
Dear all, Can I do a permutation test if the number of individuals in one group is much bigger than in the other group? I searched the literature but I didin´t find any assumption that refers to this subject for permutation tests. Assignments inside lapply
Dear all I would like to ask you if an assignment can be done inside a lapply statement. For example I would like to covert a double nested for loop for (i in c(1:dimx)){ for (j in c(1:dimy)){ Powermap[i,j] <- Pr(c(i,j),c(PRX,PRY),f) } } to something like that: ij<-expand.grid(i=seq(1:dimx),j=(1:dimy)) unlist(lapply(1:nrow(ij),function(rowId) { return

bug in utils:::format.person
Thierry, thanks for this, this is a bug in utils:::.format_person_as_R_code(). This calls deparse() on the elements of the person object with the default width.cutoff = 60. As your comment exceeds this width, the erroneous formatting is produced. The simplest reproducible example I could come up with was: p <- person(".", comment = c(foo = ".....................",

Uncorrelated random vectors
Hello, is it possible to create two uncorrelated random vectors for a given distribution. In fact, I would like to have something like the function "rnorm" or "rlogis" with the extra property that they are uncorrelated. Thanks for your help, Luba [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

UTF8 markdown vignette
Dear all, I'm trying to use a Markdown vignette with UTF-8 encoding. It compiles well when knitting the vignette in RStudio, but it fails to recognize the UTF-8 settings when building the source package. Can someone point out what I'm doing wrong? I tried to put the relevant information below. Best regards, Thierry Details: Using 64-bit R 3.1.2 with encoding = "native.enc"

problematic dev.off() after running examples without plots
Dear all, When running R CMD check on our package, we get an error on the examples. Error in grDevices::dev.off() : cannot shut down device 1 (the null device) None of the examples in our package generates plots. grDevices::dev.off() is code added by R CMD check. A workaround is to have at least one example which has some plot. Is there a better solution? We are using R 3.5.1 Best
