help with ''error_messages_for''
Greetings,
I''m in the throws of deploying an app on site5, and I''m getting strange
errors. I think I might need to understand how error_messages_for
works.
I get a pretty standard looking error:
"
You have a nil object when you didn''t expect it!
You might have expected an instance of ActiveRecord::Base.
The error occured while evaluating nil.errors

Multiple Model Validation
Hey All !
I have a form which contains two models. I would like both models to be
validated, but have their validations aggregated on the page.
If I do:
<%= error_messages_for(:model1) %>
<%= error_messages_for(:model2) %>
It puts two big validation blocks on the page. I would like all the errors
from both models, but only in one validation box.
Is this possible ? All my attempts

Active Record, Migration, and Translation
Hi,
I think the columns and table in migration should be able to have an
optional "display_name" set manually. Something like:
create_table :people, {display_name => "Personne"} do |t|
t.column :first_name :string, :display_name => "Prénom".
end
Let me explain my point of view:
Rails is a framework made to write programs in English. You see it when

Error message translation
I have a problem with translation of english phrase when an input error
occurs. When I put: error_messages_for("registratie") above my view. I
get the error: "xx errors prohibited this registratie from being saved".
The problem now is, the site is for dutch customers and I would like to
translate this to a dutch phrase. I know I can translate the individual
fields with the

presenting validation errors via fbml?

Is there a helper or suggested approach for presenting validation
errors on an fbml form?
Something to translate rails error markup to fbml:error markup?

Override flash message - help
How can I modify the flash message that is displayed on a validates_*
check? I used the :message => "" parameter, but it still gives me an
annoying "Test : Please ensure you have entered the test message". I
wanted to get rid of the "Test: " and the above "6 errors prohibited
this table from being saved" I looked at the source of

SQLite3 + RAM drive => 3 times faster unit tests
One problem I sort of always had with the ActiveRecord''s tight coupling
to the SQL backend is how slow it makes the unit tests. OK, there are
some ways to make it faster at a price of extra complexity (reusing the
fixtures, doing a rollback in the end of the test, etc), but still - it
is much slower than what I would like a unit test to be.
Today I had a very simple idea (why, oh why

custom errors for validates_presence, etc..
I am trying to figure out how to customize the error messages when I use
validates_presence_of. I am validating a user name and I use <%=
error_messages_for ''user'' %> in my view to display the messages. I know
you can customize in the model with :message =>''custom message'', but I
am trying to get rid of the first part of the error message which is,

Unable to display errors for multiple records
Hi,
I''m trying to save multiple records of the same model in one go. Which
is no problem at all. Problem starts when I want to introduce error
handling. The problem is that no record should be saved when one of the
records contains an error. I tried it as follows:
session[:infos].each do |info|
@quest.name = info["name"]
unless @quest.valid?
@errors_found = true

acts_as_list scope and polymorphic association.
this is my model:
class Person < ActiveRecord::Base
has_many :phones, :as => :callable, :order => :position
end
class Phone < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :callable, :polymorphic => true
acts_as_list :scope => :callable_id
end
how can i add the callable_type to the scope.
how can i say the scope is the {:callable_id,:callable_type} couple?
is it even possible?
thanks

find_by_sql ON STEROID possible?
find_by_sql BREAKS THE OOP BEAUTY and perhaps we can solve that.
NAMING CONVENTIONS can perhaps make find_by_sql much more clever.
lets imagine that relation:
publishers <- books <-> authors_books <-> authors -> universities (can''t find
something else than university for that last association :) )
imagine we want to fetch every book and every associated

RoR admin system
I''m preety new at RoR (and programming), I tried a few tutorials, and
really like the RoR simplicity, but my knowledge of the framework still
isn''t very good (to be true, i understand the basics, but not everything
that''s in the tutorials).
But still I''d like to create a website which has:
- front end interface (with no edit functions)

handled by the controller for associated objects creation.?
do i have to use ajax to add associated objects to the unsaved but

rforum engine
Here''s a question for those well-versed in rforum or engines -- or
both, ideally :) I''ve spent some time today turning RForum into an
engine, using rails 1.0, engines trunk, and rforum 0.1 (as rforum
trunk didn''t appear to work out of the box).
My rforum engine works, but only when I do two things that I found by
trial and error:
1) All rforum controllers subclass

RForum Software Sucks?
(Donning flameproof suit)
Am I the only person who thinks that the Ruby forum software sucks?
E.g. search only for a word. Can''t search for new posts, can''t search
by date, topic list doesn''t indicate when I''ve already read a post,
there can be several independent replies to a topic, just to name a few.
There are lots (admittedly not Ruby based) of good

Why no forum app in rails yet?
Hi Guys,
So creating a forums application seems like something that rails can
handle easily and well, and whatever implementation that came to
fruition would be head and shoulders above existing products like
vBulliten and phpBB.
Even the existing rails forums are using php-based forum products! An
insult if you ask me.
So my question -- is there any current development of a rails-based
