R-2.6.0> problem to load library(stats) (PR#9956)
Hello, I just installed R-2.6.0 on my computer (OSX 10.4.10, ppc) and get the following message when I try to load the library stats: > library(stats) Error in dyn.load(file, ...) : kann shared library '/Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Resources/ library/stats/libs/ppc/stats.so' nicht laden: dlopen(/Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Resources/library/stats/libs/ ppc/stats.so,

Ignoring .Rprofile when installing a package
Dear all, Is there a way to force R CMD INSTALL to ignore ~/.Rprofile and similar? I presume it sources these startup files for a reason, but I've found that it can cause confusion or problems. In particular, my ~/.Rprofile loads a few packages which I very frequently use, but this stops me from installing new versions of their dependencies; viz. $ R CMD INSTALL tractor.base * installing to

prevent `R CMD INSTALL' from reading `.Rprofile'
I tripped over the following problem: due to (my?) unresolved problems with cairo graphics under MacOS (graphic window blocks unrecoverably) I modified my `.Rprofile' to issue `X11(type = "Xlib")` on each R startup (as a workaround to automatic opening of a `cairo' device when issuing a plotting command). I now noted that `R CMD INSTALL' obviously

R with graphics from command line
I have made a regular R install, so that /Library/Frameworks/R.frameworks/Resources/bin/R.bin is now a Carbon APPL, using Rez in the way described before. We now have basically two R's -- one from Terminal.app and one from R.app. The first one works fine, except for the small glitch of not starting the default device properly. The second one does not work properly with Aqua Tcl/Tk,

Installing R+Emacs+MikTeX editor on a USB drive
Hi R-users, Since it has been already asked for several times, I would like to share my solution that I have gathered from several sources on internet for portable R+Emacs+MikTeX. This may also help some future R-users. My best, Ozan Installing R, MikTeX, Emacs (+auctex+aspell) on USB Useful information from: - http://at-aka.blogspot.com/2006/06/portable-emacs-22050-on-usb.html -

Tell whether ./.Rprofile or ~/.Rprofile is being processed?
Hi. Assume I have one ~/.Rprofile (in my home directory) and one ./.Rprofile (in my current working directory). In this case, the latter will have higher priority and will be the script that R uses during the startup process. Is there a *generic* way to programmatically from within ./.Rprofile and ~/.Rprofile to tell what their absolute pathnames are or equivalently what directories they are

When to use RProfile.site or .Rprofile
I would appreciate some advice on what the preferred contents of RProfile.site vs. .Rprofile should be. A .First() function can reside in either one, but is it preferred to place it in .Rprofile? I currently use .First() in .Rprofile files placed in separate directories used for different RStudio projects. Thank you [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

.Rprofile is being executed twice
Hi, After updating to R 2.7, my .Rprofile executes twice on startup. I confirmed this by putting in the following line: print("starting .Rprofile...") When I start R, I see: [1] "starting .Rprofile..." [1] "starting .Rprofile..." This seems like the obverse of the following FAQ:

.Rprofile results in corruption of .RData? (PR#346)
It could be that the following may be due to something wrong that I managed to do (I cannot think what...) but I submit this report in case it is something that you want to know about (I have solved the problem by removing .Rprofile as I describe below). 1. After compiling/installing R 0.90 (an uneventful process), it worked perfectly the first time, and it read .RData written by the previous

Execution of Rprofile.site
Hi everyone. I have recently installed R 2.14.1 on my 64-bit Windows 7 laptop. I am attempting to include some favourite functions in the Rprofile.site file to run at R start-up as I did with my previous 32-bit XP machine. I have edited the Rprofile.site file in "C:\Program Files\R\R-2.14.1\etc\" but the added code doesn't seem to be executed when I run R, whether through Tinn-R

R devel [and R 2.14.1 patched]: R CMD build now sources ~/.Rprofile
I'd like to follow up on this one. It may be that I have misunderstood something, but on both R devel (2012-02-22 r58452) and R 2.14.1 patched (2012-02-18 r58394) I can't seem to avoid loading ~/.Rprofile when I run 'R CMD <cmd>', e.g. R CMD build. For me, the loading of ~/.Rprofile by 'R CMD' started a few weeks ago, and I haven't seen it before. More details

Reading in a value of .Random.seed in .Rprofile
For reasons that are best known to myself [ ;-) ] I have a value of .Random.seed saved (via dput()) in a file ``.Random.seed.save''. In my .Rprofile I have the lines: .Random.seed <- dget(".Random.seed.save") Junk <- dget(".Random.seed.save") print(all.equal(.Random.seed,dget(".Random.seed.save")))

.Rprofile interfering with update.packages()
I know this is a double post, but the subject line was really misleading. Sorry again. This is the first time that I have tried to update packages with a tinkered around with .Rprofile. I start R with R --vanilla and it does not load my .Rprofile, but when I issue the command update.packages() R downloads the packages as expected, but then seems to load .Rprofile before compiling the packages

request to make --enable-prebuilt-html the default build on linux
I don't understand the advantages of generating html help dynamically, but I have found some clear disadvantages. One is that I can no longer use a bookmark in my browser to access the list of packages and go from there to individual help pages. The other is that, if I try to use ESS instead (using options(help_type="html") in .Rprofile) - it is a mess. ESS splits the emacs frame

Embarrassingly naive question regarding graphics on Mac OS X
I am having trouble saving graphs. Using the Aqua interface (which is not my preferred interface), I have no problems plotting a graph, adding additional lines, points, references, etc., and then saving it to a file using, for example, the dev2bitmap command. I have found that, running R with Xemacs+ESS under X11 (which I prefer over Aqua), this is not possible. I can either send the graph to a

Rprofile etc in Linux
Hi! I do not have an Rprofile file in $R_HOME/etc, but I do have one in $R_HOME/library/base/R. I thought I could include a .First() function in a new $R_HOME/etc/Rprofile file for attaching a couple files which have custom "always needed" functions. But would the new $R_HOME/etc/Rprofile create a conflict with $R_HOME/library/base/R/Rprofile (in particular because the later also has a

can't get the quartz window to the background
Dear List, I have switched from Linux to OS X, and I find the R interface there really nice. I am using Emacs+ESS, and the quartz device. My only problem is that 1. I can't move the quartz window, whenever I go above it I see a spinning rainbow circle (AFAIK that means "I am busy" or "can't touch me" in OS X) 2. Once something gets in front of it, I cannot

Rprofile.site and automatic installation of missing packages
Dear all. I am trying to install missing (not installed) packages during startup of R through code in Rprofile.site but I miserably failed and I am not sure what I am doing wrong. R is installed to C:Program files but it is not writable for the users, therefore I cannot change Rprofile.site located in root etc directory. I however can put Rprofile.site in users home directory (Documents)

echo Rprofile.site on startup
Hello, I have not been able to find how to have R echo the Rprofile.site contents to the console on start-up. Changing the windoze shortcut to include the '--verbose' option does not show what I am looking for. I would like to see the options and commands listed, in addition to the library() loadings, as they are processed. Examples of the type of options I like and shortcut-commands
