Unpacking of archive failed??
Greetings,
I have just been given a VPS with a fresh, minimal Centos 4.2
installation. When I ran "yum update" it went on updating some tenths
of packages and signalled this error:

Safely Remove Disk on LVM
Dear All,
I plan to replace an error disk that is part of an LV. from LVM how-to
it could be done with using pvmove to move all PE from old disk to new
disk. But the howto also said that pvmove is slow. Anyone has
experience using pvmove on 2TB disk?
Is it possible to make all PE on the old disk empty so I don't have to
do pvmove (assuming that I can make a free space >= 2TB). Thank you in

Bug in getVarCov.gls method (PR#9752)
Hello,
I am using R2.5 under Windows.
Looks like the following statement
vars <- (obj$sigma^2)*vw
in getVarCov.gls method (nlme package) needs to be replaced with:
vars <- (obj$sigma*vw)^2
With best regards

changes in the structure of mer objects?
Dear all,
I try to run the example of lmer and get the following error message.

This error message is similar to what I get with other models. It looks

Re : Custom axis
Maybe I do not explain well what I would like to do. I do not want to change the labels of the axis, but the scale. What I want is a general procedure for changing the scale. Its like using a logarithmic scale on a plot. Labels are the same, but the increases of x along the x-axis are defined by a known monotone and continuous function.

help with gls
Hello R-users,
I am using gls function in R to fit a model with certain correlation
structure.
The medol as:
fit.a<-gls(y~1,data=test.data,correlation=corAR1(form=~1|aa),method="ML")
mu<-summary(fit.a)$coefficient
With the toy data I made to test, the estimate of mu is exactly equal to
the overall mean of y which can not be true.
But, if I make a toy data with y more than two

Sample size calculation for differences between two very small proportions (Fisher's exact test or others)?
Hi,
I'm try to compute the minimum sample size needed to have at least an 80% of power, with alpha=0.05. The problem is that empirical proportions are really small: 0.00154 in one case and 0.00234. These are the estimated failure proportion of two medical treatments.
Thomas and Conlon (1992) suggested Fisher's exact test and proposed a computational method, which according to their table

HTB - not borrowing, not exceeding rate
Hello!
I have a quite complicated setup. In my network on each interface there is
bandwidth limitation for each user. Booth outgoing (on interface itself) and
incoming (attached IMQ) traffic. There is main HTB class which limits
bandwidth for whole interface and HTB subclasses for each user. Filtering is
done with hashing filters. This setup was working correctly.
But now in the network I

How to extract a specific substring from a string (regular expressions) ? See details inside
Hi all,
I have thousands of strings like these ones:
"1159_1; YP_177963; PPE FAMILY PROTEIN"
"1100_13; SECRETED L-ALANINE DEHYDROGENASE ALD CAA15575"
"1141_24; gi;2894249;emb;CAA17111.1; PROBABLE ISOCITRATE DEHYDROGENASE"
and various others..
I'm interested to extract the code for the protein (in this example: YP_177963, CAA15575, CAA17111).

Extracting SD of random effects from lme object
Hello,
How do I get the standard deviations for the random effects out of the
lme object? I feel like there's probably a simple way of doing this,
but I can't see it. Using the first example from the documentation:

R-beta: more R for Windows (rjune)
I've just put up (12:00 noon NZ) yet another tmp.zip with the fixes
for Peter Dalgaards two bugs. Niels reports that the 3.51 problems
are now different but not solved. I'm trying to locate a 3.51 machine
and will post another fix.
Can I get some feedback on how people want these "patches" delivered?
Should I be numbering them and keeping the old patches? I don't

Question: Beginner stuck in a R cycle
Dear All,
I have a database of 200 observations named myD.
In the dataframe there are a column named code (with codes varying from 1 to 77), a column named "prevalence" with some quantitative measurements are given and an column named Pr_mean, with no values.
I would like to set a cycle to compute the average of prevalence values for each different code and store the averages under the
