Need Help: User Defined R Functions in Sweave/Latex
Dear all, I want to start my post by expressing my sincere gratitude for all the help this group has given me in Sweave/Latex/R. The tools are excellent and so is the community! On to the question. My Sweave code is intended to make lots of plots and create a *.pdf document. Sweave is perfect for this. The only problem is that I find myself using the same R code, within my Sweave input file

Help: Upgrading to R2.5 on Ubuntu (Feisty)
Thank you in advance for reading this help request. I am pretty new to R. I am experiencing some issues getting 2.5 installed on my Ubuntu Fiesty system and seek your advice. To the best of my ability I followed the instructions here: http://cran.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu/README Setting this as the last line in my sources.list: deb http://cran.fhcrc.org/bin/linux/ubuntu feisty/ When I

In-memory databases vs PHP Bindings
I can't quite connect the dots on this, perhaps someone can help. I'm simply trying to create an in-memory database comprising a single document, so that I can run a load of queries against it and see if any of them match the new document (this is to enable users to have 'subscriptions' to saved searches and be alerted every time a new item is published that matches their

Adding R's texmf to tetex's texmf
Hello! I use Sweave for a report and up to now I always copied Sweave.sty to a folder where I have the report. But this can be done better (or did I miss anything) with * extension of TEXMF variable in texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf or * linking /usr/lib/R/share/texmf to somewhere in /usr/share/texmf I tried with the following and I didn't need to put Sweave.sty in folder with a report: cd

Vunerable shell scripts
I made a list of /usr/bin scripts which allows /tmp races. Following ones creates /tmp/something.$$, then, with no permission/ownership checking, /tmp/something.$$.x (x may vary ;), or even performs suitable checks, but gives enough time to alter /tmp contents: glibcbug, bashbug, znew, mailstat, autoupdate, x11perfcomp, gccmakedep, pnmindex, xcopy, autoheader, cvsbug, rcs2log, updatedb, igawk,

RCurl slow when sending data over 1kb
I am using RCurl's curlPerform command to send an XML string to an HTTP server running on the localhost. The command is something like this: reader <- basicTextGatherer() curlPerform(url="http://127.0.0.1/", httpheader=c('Content-Type' = "text/xml; charset=utf-8"), postfields=toString.XMLNode(xmlRoot(xdoc)), writefunction=reader$update,

Linking between Camping apps?
I''ve been working with Camping for a little while, reading through the examples. The "Small Apps, Many Mounts" idea makes sense, and interacting with other apps'' models (using the full class name) works just as it should. But what is the best way to include links to other mounted applications? As a toy example, I''m trying to add links to the pages in the Tepee

Need Help: Installing/Using xtable package
Hi all, Let me know if I need to ask this question of the bioconductor group. I used the bioconductor utility to install this package and also the CRAN package.install function. My computer crashed a week ago. Today I reinstalled all my bioconductor/R packages. One of my scripts is giving me the following error: in my script I set: library("xtable") print.xtable(.... and receive this

Problem with R CMD check and the inconsolata font business.
I have just installed R version 2.14.0 and tried to re-build and re-check some of the packages that I maintain. I'm getting a warning (in the process of running R CMD check on my "deldir" package): > * checking PDF version of manual ... WARNING > LaTeX errors when creating PDF version. > This typically indicates Rd problems. > LaTeX errors found: > ! Font

Strange index consistency issue
Hi, A Recoll user is reporting an index corruption problem. In general, index corruption happens from time to time with Recoll, because of crashes, reboots, misc Recoll bugs, etc. The strange thing here is that xapian-check does not seem to detect anything. In a nutshell, some document numbers seem to point to a data blackhole: the docids are returned when searching for the file/doc unique

mount problems with recent mount and samba
I have a problem mounting Samba shares with recent mount packages from RedHat and Samba packages from samba site. I have tried samba-2.2.4 RPM and samba-2.2.5 (built for RH7.2). In all cases mount fails if I use RH mount package version > 2.11b (current is 2.11n). If I also use Samba packages (2.2.4) from RedHat Rawhide - everyhting works Here is detailed description I have submitted to RH

assert_select issue
I''d like to do an assert_select where only ONE of the matching elements needs to match the :text. It seems counterintuitive to me to require them *all* to match, which precludes me from testing the existence of a particular tag (h1) with some particular text if other instances of the same tag exist. I know that I can narrow down the field by using more detailed selectors, but it sure

Is this just anti-Ogg FUD?
I was recently talking to a friend of mine who produces what's widely referred to as "techno", music that's heavy on electronically generated loops and effects, samples, and has plenty of bass. He doesn't like ogg for a few reasons - he sent me a rather long email, and I've stripped out the nonsense from it (he has some technically irrelevant reasons for not liking

Can't get Sweave syntax highlighting with Emacs
I can't get Emacs to automatically do syntax highlighting of Sweave files. I have followed Friedrich's suggestion for code to insert into my .emacs file. The complete section from my .emacs file is given below. When I load a *.Snw file, font is white until I press M-x, then the first code and document chunks get highlighted, but not the rest of the file. Latex and Noweb menus are

summary: Sweave - documenting a long function
Hi, Here is a summary of the replies to my question yesterday about documenting a long function with Sweave. My thanks to those who replied. Friedrich Leisch suggested a work around which was copied to the mailing list so I wont repeat it here. This worked well. (I made a minor addition by adding braces around each chunk of code to make the output in the pdf file look a bit prettier. This seems

Apparent conflict between \Sexpr in Sweave and R2HTML
I have come across an apparent bug in the operation of Sweave. If I load the package R2HTML then execution of \Sexpr{} in an *.Rnw file no longer works. The \Sexpr{} code is simply written to the *.tex file. Below are my *.Rnw file, commands, and output. The Sweave file, Sweave-test-1_short.Rnw: % -*- mode: noweb; noweb-default-code-mode: R-mode; -*- \documentclass{article} \title{A Test

Setting up Xemacs + Sweave
Dear list, I have tried to setup my Xemacs for use with Sweave, which I indend to learn. I have followed the instructions in the Sweave FAQ, that is to say, I put (defun Rnw-mode () (require 'ess-noweb) (noweb-mode) (if (fboundp 'R-mode) (setq noweb-default-code-mode 'R-mode))) (add-to-list 'auto-mode-alist '("\\.Rnw\\'" . Rnw-mode)) (add-to-list

Sweave driver extension
Almost all of the coxme package and an increasing amount of the survival package are now written in noweb, i.e., .Rnw files. It would be nice to process these using the Sweave function + a special driver, which I can do using a modified version of Sweave. The primary change is to allow the following type of construction <<coxme>> coxme <- function(formula, data, subset, blah blah
