multiple scale
Hi all
i need to put on one graph 2 functions who's x axis is the same and y not.
I mean on horizontal the time, and on vertical left: pressure, on vertical right: rpm of a motor, is R able to do that?
i've found this that i could adapt maybe (i don't need time series really?) :/ :

bug in lrect [lattice]?
In lattice version 0.14-11 (2006/10/23), there appears
to be a small bug in lrect [lattice]: border is set to NULL
accidentally. It is easily fixed by adding one line
to lrect -- see example and hack below ...
I wasn't sure if this should be submitted as an R bug
since it is part of a package, but a core/recommended package ...

Error when producing multiple graphes
Dear all,
Within a larger script I use the following code to produce barplots for
all variables contained in a dataframe "type3m":
for(xn in names(type3m)) barplot(table(type3m[[xn]]), main = paste
("Barplot of", xn), width=0.75,legend.text=barnamesm,
xlim=c(0,4),ylim=c(0,400))
The plots are produced and printed into a *.ps file. However, R gives an

Add a rectangle behind a plot
Hi there,
I found one reference to add a reactangle behind a
plot using plot(...,add=T), I tried this but didn't
obtain the desired result.
If a I have the following code:
plot(x,y)
rect(xleft, ybottom, xright,ytop,col='green)
The rectangle appear on top of the plot.
Any help will be greatly appreciated,

display pictures
Dear all,
is there a possibility to display pictures (jpegs, pngs, ...) in R?
Maybe the following (hypothetical) code makes it clearer what I have in
mind:
plot(x=0:100, y=0:100, type="n")
rect(xleft=25, xright=75, ybottom=30, ytop=95, fill="apicture.png")
Thank you,
Roland

indexing within panels in xyplot
Dear R-helpers,
I need to show a linear fit through a subset of the data within each
combination of levels of two factors. So I prepared an xyplot with
different panels for each level of one of the factors, and different
symbols within each panel for the levels of the second factor. My problem
is selecting the subset of each combination through which the line should
be fit for subsequent

modifying axis labels in lattice panels
Dear all,
I am struggling to modify the axis labels/ticks in a panel provided to
xyplot.
To begin with, I do not know the equivalent of the xaxt="n" directive for
panels that would set the stage for no default x axis being drawn.
My goal is to draw ticks and custom formatted labels at certain hours of the
week.
When I execute the code below, I get an error message in the plot window

NGROUPS_MAX on Linux
Linux has just raised the NGROUPS_MAX limit from 32 to 64k. In doing an
audit of various tools, openssh turned up as having incorrect groups
handling. Almost no user-space apps really care about NGROUPS_MAX.
A proposed patch (untested, since the CVS build won't compile on my RH box..

What think?

Groups and bwplot
Dear R-users,
A while ago, Deepayan Sarkar suggested some code that uses the group
argument in bwplot to create some 'side-by-side' boxplots
(https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2010-February/230065.html). The
example he gave was relatively specific and I wanted to generalize his
approach into a function. Unfortunately, I seem to have some issues
passing the correct arguments to the

is this null block OK?
Hi,
A system running ext3 crashed this afternoon (nothing to do with ext3, bad
network driver). Is was saving a file from emacs when it happened. The
file system is 0.06b and had ordered data as the mount option. Let me
emphasize this was running ext3 pure, not with SnapFS or InterMezzo layered
on top of it.
strace reveals that Emacs does

Reading multi-line FWF data
I keep getting these fixed-width format (FWF) data files where variables
for a single subject are spread across multiple lines and each line has
a different format (apparently created with SAS or SPSS). To read them
I stole some stuff from `read.fwf' in base R and threw together the
function included below.
Please feel free to test this function with your own data and let me
know of any

xmalloc(foo*bar) -> xcalloc(foo, bar) for Portable
Hi All.
While wandering in auth-pam.c I noticed that there's a few Portable-specific
escapees from the xmalloc(foo * bar) cleanup.
There's also a "probably can't happen" integer overflow in
ssh-rand-helper.c with the memset:
num_cmds = 64;
- entcmd = xmalloc(num_cmds * sizeof(entropy_cmd_t));
+ entcmd = xcalloc(num_cmds, sizeof(entropy_cmd_t));

Superposing data on boxplot
Hi folks,
I have a vaiable Y and an associated factor Z at several (13)
levels.
boxplot(Y~Z)
produces a nice array of boxplots, one for each level of Z,
and each duly labaelled with its level of Z.
I would like to superpose on each boxplot the actual data
points which it represents, i.e. do something conceptually
(though not in real R) expressed as
points(Y~Z)
or
points(Z,Y)
It can

use sysconf instead of NGROUPS_MAX
Currently samba (2.0.6) relies on the NGROUPS_MAX define. This makes
the number of allowed simultaneous (per-user) secondary groups a
compile-time decision.

How I got Samba 2.2.8a to run on OpenBSD 3.2 i386
First of all, GREAT WORK! I now have my very own Windoze domain thanks to
Samba :)
Now, getting Samba to work fully on OpenBSD was harder than I'd think it
would be.
To get smbd to compile somewhat cleanly, I had to hack
./source/include/config.h thusly: remove USE_SETREUID, add USE_SETEUID.
Then, I hacked sec_ctx.c like the attached diff shows, to get rid of some
assert_gid panic when
