lam vs. openmpi
Dear R Debian Users:
I wrote a quick C program (eventually to become R code) and compiled it as:
mpicc -o greet greet.c
So far so good. Now when I run mpirun, this happens:
erin at erin-laptop:~$ mpirun -np 2 greet
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
It seems that there is no lamd running on the host erin-laptop.
This indicates that the LAM/MPI

Rmpi_0.5-4 and OpenMPI questions
Many thanks to Dr Yu for updating Rmpi for R 2.6.0, and for starting to make
the changes to support Open MPI.
I have just built the updated Debian package of Rmpi (i.e. r-cran-rmpi) under
R 2.6.0 but I cannot convince myself yet whether it works or not. Simple
tests work. E.g. on my Debian testing box, with Rmpi installed directly
using Open Mpi 1.2.3-2 (from Debian) and using 'r' from

Installing Rmpi on 64-bit Linux Athlon
Hello,
We have recently added a 64-bit 2 x Dual-Core Athlon server running Red
Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 3 to allow for processing of large data
sets (>4GB) in R. To integrate this server into our Linux cluster, I
have been trying (unsuccessfully) to use Rmpi/lam-mpi to parallel
process some of our scripts. While I have successfully compiled R 2.4.0
and lam-mpi 7.1.2 on this server using

Multicore computation in Windows network: How to set up Rmpi
R-users,
My question is related to earlier posts about benefits of quadcore over
dualcore computers; I am trying to setup a cluster of windows xp
computers so that eventually I could make use of 10-20 cpu:s, but for
learning how to do this, I am playing around with two laptops.
I thought that the package snow would come handy in this situation, but
to use snow, I would probably need to install

Rmpi loading error
I am running R 2.14.1 on a Windows XP (32 bit) system, and am trying to
install the package 'Rmpi' to allow me to parallel process on all cores of a
quad-core PC (and if that works well, I want to add extra slaves from a
dual-core laptop). Rmpi appears to install OK (see below), but I am
encountering the following error when I try and load the package:

Help with Rmpi install
Hello R-help!
I am a systems administrator for the University of Southern California. I take care of it's general-purpose research cluster, and have recently been asked to provide access to a parallelized R platform. I do not have any previous experience using R, and have only ever had to do anything more then 'yum -y install R'.
We have a myrinet MPI network, and use mpich1 as our

mpirun question with Rmpi
Dear R People:
I'm running Rmpi on a single machine and I have the following
statement from the command line:
mpirun -np 3 ./R --no-save < eek1.in >stuff4.out
The stuff4.out file only contains the third result. Is there a way to
fix this such that it shows all 3 sets, please
Thanks in advance,
Erin

Problem about spawn nodes with Rmpi
Hi all,
now I'm testing R in a "virtual cluster", made it with VirtualBox. This one
has 3 nodes, running CentOS 5 and OpenMPI 1.2.8, and the principal node
(called "server") exports the /home to other nodes.
I have installed R and OpenMPI in /home, in fact, it seems work OK. Editing
the openmpi-default-hostfile and run "mpirun -np 3 hostname" I can see the

R CMD INSTALL configure.args and CC customization
I am running into the following issue that has been previously
reported on the R-devel mailing list. The short version is that I'm
writing a package for MPI, and I'd like to change CC and SHLIB_LD to
"mpicc". Trying to change them in Makevars.in has no effect, because
the values are clobbered by /etc/R/Makeconf. Will the following
changes to Makeconf.in introduce any problems?

Snow vs Rmpi
Hi,
I have few high-level questions about the Snow and Rmpi packages . I understand that Snow uses Rmpi as one of possible transport layers, yet my questions about user experience, not technical details:
1. Does Snow install and work well in Windows?
2. Interruptibility. I understand that currently it is impossible to interrupt a running top-level command in Snow ( Ctl-c or the likes), the

problem with Rmpi 0.5-5 and openmpi
Dear knowledgeable experts :-),
I am trying to get openmpi, Rmpi and SNOW running on a Myrinet/GM

installation of Rmpi and SNOW.
I try to load the Rmpi library and get the following:

Mpirun with R CMD scripts
Hi,
I am working on a 64-bit rocks cluster and am relatively new to the
R package. I am trying to get Snow working with R and Rmpi and have
run into the following issue. R is able to load the Rmpi and snow
libraries and is able to run simple commands both interactively and
batch as follows:
