mtrace and debug
Hello,
pointed to the article "Debugging Without (Too Many) Tears" of Mark
Bravington in Rnews Vol 3/3, December 2003 there is a package mvbutils
mentioned.
So I started to install this package from within R
> install.package(mvbutils)
I receive an error essage that this package is not found! Is due to a
merge,removal or rename of this package?

mtrace() fails
I find the R debug package very useful. I've installed and used it on
several of the machines I use, without problems, but on one machine I
get the following error:

how to debug (mtrace) a function defined inside a function?
Hi, everyone. I am using a fair amount of closures in my code. Problem i am
experiencing is i cannot figure out how to mtrace functions defined within a
function. There must be some way to name such function for mtrace to see it
and let me step into it. For example, say i have code
mymodel<-function(){
data<-numeric(0)
build<-function(){
data<<-1
}
m<-list()

fixup for debug package and R2.4.0
A number of users have spotted a terminal problem with the 'debug' package under R2.4.0, along the lines of
> mtrace(x)
> x()
Error in attr(value, "row.names") <- rlabs :
row names must be 'character' or 'integer', not 'double'
This arose from a bug in 'rbind.data.frame' in R2.4.0 itself. The bug is fixed in R2.4.0 patched, so the

debug package in R 2.4.0
Hi.
I recently upgraded to R version 2.4.0, and I have found that the
"debug" package no longer works. In particular, when I try to debug a
function, I get the following error message:
Error in attr(value, "row.names") <- rlabs :
row names must be 'character' or 'integer', not 'double'
I have, of course, taken all the necessary preceding

mlocal/mtrace inside a loop
Hello
I need some help in figuring Bravington’s debugger
out.
Ok
I have 2 functions, fun1 and fun2 saved in a ASCII
file say filename is funs.
Fun1 has a loop which calls fun2, fun2 has a loop
which fails and I need to find out the value of the
variables of the fun2 and fun1 loops at the specific
iteration that fails. Both fun1 and fun2 loops will
iterate thousands of times so line by line debug

how to reshape an array avoiding for loops
Dear r-help,
I have an array a1 with dimensions [1:660,1:65,1:25]
I would like the first dimension to be the last one.
That is I want and array [1:65,1:25,1:660]
The only way to do this, I know, is
tmp.a<-array(dim=dim(a1)[c(2,3,1)])
for(i in 1:dim(a1)[1]) tmp.a[,,i]<-a1[i,,]
a1<-tmp.a
rm(tmp.a)
Is it possible to avoid 'for' loop here?
Thank you!

mvbutils and trackObjs
Hello Colleagues,
I've recently become a fan of Mark Bravington's mvbutils package for organizing analysis projects in a tree.
Using cd(), Save(), fixr(), mlazy() etcetera solves nicely some of the nuisances that have worried or annoyed me and sometimes caused
big problems over the years. Well thought out.
Now one feature that would be fabulous would be automatic time-stamping of

how to resample (or resize) matrix?
Dear r-help,
I have a matrix, suppose, 10x10, and I need the matrix 5x5, having
in each cell a mean value of the cells from the initial matrix.
Please, point me to a function in R, which can help me doing that.
Digging the documentation and mail archives didn't give me a result.
Thank you.

several regression lines in panel of xyplot (trellis graphics)
Dear r-help,
I need to draw xyplot() graphs with several regression lines:
one line for the whole range of x (the variable on the horizontal
axis) and two additional lines for subranges of x.
Is it possible to make first regression line (panel.lmline(x,y,...);)
to be drawn on the whole graph
and regression lines of the subsets to be drawn only over their subsets?

masking of objects between mtrace() and getYahooData()
I am using getYahooData from TTR to get daily data. When i do it standalone,
it is fine. It also works fine inside my code. However, when i run code
inside mtrace(), i always get the following error:
Error in xts(cbind(adj[[1]], adj[[2]]), index(obj)):
order.by requires an appropriate time-based object
After a lot of hand wringing, it looks to me that it happens because index

layout.show()
Dear r-help,
Please, be so kind, tell me what does mean the parameter of layout.show()?
I use R 1.6.2... Windows NT 4.0
Unfortunately I cannot understand phrases from the help
"n: number of figures to plot."
what figures?
"`layout.show(n)' plots (part of) the current layout, namely the
outlines of the next `n' figures."

Need mtrace (malloc debugging) help
Hi all,
I am using "mtrace" malloc debugging utility to trace memory leaks in my
application.
I followed following steps:
1. Added mtrace() function in the beginning of my main function.
2. exported the MALLOC_TRACE environment variable.
$ export MALLOC_TRACE=memory.log
3. Run the program
4. trace the program for memory leaks.
$ mtrace <myprogram> $MALLOC_TRACE

R doesn't remove temporary dirs and about bugreport
Dear r-help,
1. I always find in TEMP directory subdirs named like Rtmp#####
where ##### denote a number.
Obviously, they are created by R and are not removed by it after
finish.
Why?
I use R 1.7.0 and Windows NT Workstation 4.0, English. SP 6a.
2. Is it possible to get known whether my bug report was received?
I've sent to r-bugs at biostat.ku.dk the following but it seemed

what does boxplot draw?
Dear r-help,
Unfortunately I cannot find in the documentation what determines
ranges of a 'box' in the box-and-whisker plot.
It is said in "Simple R" (http://www.math.csi.cuny.edu/Statistics/R/simpleR)
that they are 1st and 3rd Qus usually.
I tried to add to boxplot lines with (quantile(x,probs=0.25)), but
lines do not coincide with edges of boxes.

plot correlation matrix
Dear useRs,
While exploring new R packages, I have found the Rattle.
This screenshot http://rattle.togaware.com/rattle-correlation.png
is very interesting
(others are in http://rattle.togaware.com/rattle-screenshots.html ).
Which function was used to produce this plot?
Is such plotting of the correlation matrix a unique Rattle's feature?
Unfortunately I have some weird problems with RGtk2

again troubles with lattice
Dear r-help community,
Thank you for your previous answers!
Now I have strange behaviour of the lattice library funcitons.
They do not draw graphics in the file when called from the script.
I created the script file, called, for example, "a.R", containing
the following
library(lattice);

debug package: mtrace fails
Hi all,
Since three month ago I started working with R professionally, I never did
it before, so I am such a newbie.
I am having some problems using the 'debug' package. I love this package,
but most of the times I wanna use it it just fails :P
When typing at prompt 'mtrace(myfunct)' most of the times I get the
following error:

mtrace function
I use windows xp. When trying to use the function mtrace from package debug
the window that should open with the function to be debugged do not show
any text at all. It shows only a part of my desktop. Does anyone know why.
Is there any imcompatibility between windows xp and debug package.
Thanks in advance.
