Adding Lines to Plot
This seems like a question that I should be able to answer on my own
but after looking at the documentation I cannot seem to find the
correct method.
How do I add lines to a bar plot that extend from the vertical axis?
For example, my vertical axis is numbered in increments of 10 and I
would like these to go across the whole graph.
Also, is there a way to have R label the value of each bar so

Interpreting as.factor
When I run a linear regression and include a variable in the
regression with as.factor i.e.
lm(y ~x +as.factor(x1)
and i read the output as
as.factor(x1)1....
as.factor(x1)2...
etc.
how do i interpret the estimate for each level? Is this simply to be
regarded as a shift in the equation predicted by the intercept and
independent variable x?

KS Test Warning Message
All,
Happy World Cup and Wimbledon. This morning finds me with the first
of my many daily questions.
I am running a ks.test on residuals obtained from a regression model.
I use this code:
> ks.test(Year5.lm$residuals,pnorm)
and obtain this output
One-sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov test
data: Year5.lm$residuals
D = 0.7196, p-value < 2.2e-16
alternative hypothesis: two.sided

Error Calculating Mean
I have a vector containing players' weights. When I enter
mode(data.linear$Weight)
"numeric" is returned.
When I type mean(data.linear$Weight)
NA is returned.
Any ideas as to why this may be the case? I am trying to calculate
this ultimately so I can superimpose a normal density line over a
histogram containing the weights?

color palette heatmap
Hi,
I'm kinda new of the R world.
I need to use the heatmap or heatmap.2 function to plot correlation values.
2 questions:
- how can I specify a color palette? (would like to have a transition from
blue(-1) to white(0) to red(1))
- how can I use heatmap.2 imposing a specific order (like hclust.order)?
I mean, I don't want heatmap.2 to re-cluster/re-order my data but just to
plot them

heatmap
Hi,
i created a graph with heatmap(sma) function:
heatmap(dataHeat(x))
and I wish to change the gradation of colors from blue to red, how could
i do?
Using "heatmap(dataHeat(x), col=c(2,4))" i will use only 2 colors
without gradation.

where do I find stochastic volatilities models in R or Matlab?
Hi all,
Does anybody have the source code of stochastic volatility models in R
or Matlab, for example, the Bayesian based or the simulation based SV
estimations as described by Prof Eric Zivot in the following
discussion?

heatmap with levelplot?
Hi,
How do I anchor z=0 to the white color in a levelplot so that
the color changes from cyan to magenta precisely as
z changes from negative to positive? Also is it easy to change
color scheme, say to blue/red as it's more dramatic? Is there a
better function for showing heatmap with a color bar?
Thanks in advance for any help, I've played with image,
heatmap and levelplot a little and

S+Finmetrics cointegration functions
Dear all,
S+Finmetrics has a number of very specilised functions. I am
particularly interested in the estimation of cointegrated VARs (chapter
12 of Zivot and Wang). In this context the functions coint() and
VECM() stand out. I looked at package "dse1", but found no comparable
functionality. Are there any other packages you could point me to? In
general, are there efforts for

"R" and "S-plus"
Hi,
I apologize in advance if this is the wrong area to post this message. I would like to know if there is an "R" equivalent for the "S+finMetrics" package? I'd like to be able to use "R" to go through the examples provided in the book "Modeling Financial Time-Series with S-Plus" (E. Zivot and J. Wang). I was told that "R" and

HELP ON SCALING GENE EXPRESSION DATA TO -1,0,1
Hello R-Community,
I am a rookie in R and I am fascinated with the power of bio computing
by R. I am analysing gene expression data from Real time PCR. I have
used absolute gene quantitation to measure gene copy number in all my
transcripts. All my data has been normalised them to a housekeeping
gene, which is constitutive expressed.
My problem is as follows.
After normalising some of the genes

Testing for Significance Between Logistic Regressions
This is more of a statistics question with implementation implications.
I have used R to calculate logistic regressions for various
characterstics. I would now like to verify that the difference
between a particular subset is significantly different from the
logistic regression of the entire set.
Example.
I have a logistic regression containing every running back drafted
between 1980-2000. I

Matrix heatmap
I would like to organize my data as follows:
I have a table that contains various data, and the numbers represent a level
of similarity between these data,
eg RF00013 has 100% similarity with the data RF00014.
I would leave my table as a heatmap where darker colors represent higher
similarity, and the lighter colors represent less level of similarity.
I'm using version 2.11 of R.

Testing invertibility of an AR model
I've looked around but I can't find the method in R for testing whether
the resulting estimated coefficients
of an AR model imply that the model is invertible.
To quote from eric zivot's blue book :
" the AR(p) is invertible provided the rots of the characteristic
equation
Phi(z) = 1 - phi_1*z - phi_2*z^2 = phi_3*z^3 - ..... Phi_p*z^p = 0 lie
outside
the complex circle".

residuals from a fractional arima model and other questions
Dear list and Martin,
I'm testing different approaches to fit an electricity demand time series and come upon the fracdiff package (v 1.3-1) for fitting fractional ARIMA models. The following questions are motivated by this package.
1. Despite having a help page, the residuals and fitted functions don't seem to have implementation, or did i miss something obvious? Alternatively, having a
