help with winbugs glm
Hi,
I am running a model with count data and one categorical predictor (simple
model for me to understand it fully), I did in R a glm like this:
glm(Recruitment~Depth, family=poisson). I get the coefficientes and
confidence intervals and all is ok. But then I want to do the same model
with Bayesian stats, here is my code:
model
{ for (i in 1:232)
{
Recruitment[i]~dpois(lambda[i])

Including a text file (JAGS model) in an R package
Hello,
I can`t figure out how to include a text file for use in an example in the .Rd help files of an R package I am writing.
I want the examples section of one help file to look like this:
\examples{
# Load the JAGS model
mod <- jags.model("model.txt")
}
The function jags.model tries to read in the file model.txt. So far every time I run R CMD check, I get an error message:

How to plot two different lines with different color with the same "plot" function?
Hi,R_Help!
I have done something like this:
>x<-seq(412,612,1)
>plot(x,dpois(x,512),col="blue",type="l")
>plot(x,dnorm(x,512,sd=sqrt(512)),col="red",type="l")
And now,I want to plot the two lines in the same picture or with the same "plot" action?
What should I do?
And any advises?
Thank you in advance!

Problem with Integrate
The background: I'm trying to fit a Poisson-lognormal distrbutuion to
some data. This is a way of modelling species abundances:
N ~ Pois(lam)
log(lam) ~ N(mu, sigma2)
The number of individuals are Poisson distributed with an abundance
drawn from a log-normal distrbution.
To fit this to data, I need to integrate out lam. In principle, I can
do it this way:
PLN1 <- function(lam, Count,

How to get prediction for a variable in WinBUGS?
Dear all,I am a new user of WinBUGS and need your help. After running the following code, I got parameters of beta0 through beta4 (stats, density), but I don't know how to get the prediction of the last value of h, the variable I set to NA and want to model it using the following code.Does anyone can given me a hint? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.Best

rootogram for normal distributions
Using R-2.12.1 and latticeExtra-0.6-14, I would like to understand
why a rootogram displaying samples from the Poisson distribution looks like I
expected it, whereas a rootogram using the normal distribution does not:
library(latticeExtra)
rootogram(~rpois(1000, lambda = 50), dfun = function(x) dpois(x, lambda = 50))
rootogram(~rnorm(1000), dfun = function(x) dnorm(x,mean(x),sd(x)))

R2WinBUGS sending variables as factors
Hello R and BUGS users,
I am writing a heirarchical model in R to send to BUGS via R2WinBUGS and
I am finding it difficult to get the model to run. I seem to be having
two problems.
1) I can't seem to send variables classed as factors (Month), is there a
way do this?
2) Checking the Log in WinBUGS I can see that the model is Syntactically
correct, but Bugs is not able to recognise the the

Bayesian inference: Poisson distribution with normal (!) prior
Hello,
for a frequency modelling problem I want to combine expert knowledge with
incoming real-life data (which is not available up to now). The frequency
has to be modelled with a poisson distribution. The parameter lambda has to
be normal distributed (for certain reasons we did not NOT choose gamma
althoug it would make everything easier).
I've started with the subsequent two functions to

R-beta: Problem with `rpois'
There is a problem with `rpois'. It does seem to take care about the
order of the arguments. This is an example:
> rpois(n=1,lambda=2)
[1] 3
> rpois(lambda=2,n=1)
[1] 2 0
It obviously uses the first argument as the number of samples to be
drawn, which is wrong.
I used Version 0.49 Beta (April 23, 1997).

Brand new To R
I am trying to learn R right now. I came from minitab and wanted to learn
something a bit more robust. I am trying to figure out some simple
probability to measures but I do not know the commands. I am using OSX.
Are there resources for figuring out simple events?
If I have data distributed as Normal(5,4) and I wanted to know what the
probability of P(<6) would be this, I cannot quite

Even though one of R users answered my question, I cannot understand, so I

I am trying to use "do.call", but I don't think I totally understand this

Here is an simple example.

Understanding the sequence of events when calling the R dpois function
Hello all,
I am trying to get a better understanding of the underlying code for the stats::dpois function in R and, specifically, what happens under the hood when it is called. I finally managed to track down the C course at: https://github.com/wch/r-source/blob/trunk/src/nmath/dpois.c. It would seem that the dpois C function is taking a double for each of the x and lambda arguments so I am a bit

Fwd: Rcpp sugar dpois
Hi. Here is a piece of cpp code.
It works, but I do not understand the rational for the use of
"R::dpois" to call the function dpois since in the examples I have always
found directly "dpois" or "Rcpp::dpois" that both do not work in my code.
Could anyone be so patient to explain me why should it be like that?
Thaks a lot, Enrico
