mysterious rounding digits output
Well pointed out, Jim! It is infortunate that the documentation for options(digits=...) does not mention that these are *significant digits* and not *decimal places* (which is what Joshua seems to want): "?digits?: controls the number of digits to print when printing numeric values." On the face of it, printing the value "0,517" of 'ccc' looks like printing 4

strange (?) behavoir of expand.grid()
Hello, I came across a strange behavior of expand.grid (or at least strange to me). For certain values of one of my input variables - created by seq() - I have to use strings (e.g ==".6") to select a row of the object created by expand.grid(), for other values numerical (e.g. ==.8) and for some both work. Please find an example below. #Example x<- seq(0,1,1/10) y <-

How to determine a subset of a binary strings?
Hi, I need some neat ways of determing a subset of binary strings. For example, x=c(0,0,1), y=c(0,1,1), z=c(0,1,0). So x is a subset of y and z is also a subset of y, but x is not a subset of z. I tried to search R functions and packages but no hits. Any ideas? Best, Jing -- Jing Tang, PhD Senior Researcher Finnish Institute of Molecular Medicine (FIMM) FI-00014 University of

plotting predictions
I have the following model: m1.dis=arima(diff(diff(log(ts1),lag=12)),order=c(0,1,1),seasonal=list(order=c(0,1,1),period=12)) I would like to know how to plot the correct predictions in the original units because I am trying the following code but it is not working. I believe that there must be something to account for the differencing.

nlm and "missing argument
Dear R Gurus, I am having a little difficulty with nlm. I've searched the archives and found nothing that tells me why this is occuring -- though there are some slightly similar issues. A simple example: lev2<-function(aaa,bbb,ccc,ddd,eee){ res<-aaa+bbb+ccc+ddd+eee res } nlm(lev2,p=c(32,4,5),ddd=45,eee=23) Error in f(x, ...) : argument "bbb" is missing, with no default

How to write an estimated seasonal ARIMA model from R output?
I'm trying to use the following command. arima (x, order = c(p,d,q), seasonal =list(order=c(P,D,Q), period=s) How can I write an estimated seasonal ARIMA model from the outputs. To be specifically, which sign to use? I know R uses a different signs from S plus. Is it correct that the model is: (1-ar1*B-ar2*B^2-...)(1-sar1*B^s-sar2*B^2s-....)(1-B)^d(1-B^s)^D

degree-min-sec data
Hello - Have both astronomic and geodetic data sets with values in the form "ddd:mm:ss.sssss", where dd is an integer between -180 and 180, mm is an integer between 0 and 60, and ss is a floating-point number between 0 and 60.0. In order to do anything useful with these values they need to be turned into their "decimal degree" equivalent. Assuming the data is a vector y, the

How to make predictions with the predict() method on an arimax object using arimax() from TSA library
Hi R Users, I'm fairly new to R (about 3 months use thus far.) I wanting to use the arimax function from the TSA library to incorporate some exogenous inputs into the basic underllying arima model.Then with that newly model of type arimax, I would like to make a prediction. To avoid being bogged down with issues specific to my own work, I would like to refer to readers to the example

Readers, Am trying to plot a graph with type 'h' and want to remove the white space between the plot lines and the x axis. The help section 'par' suggests that the option 'mai' controls this feature, but the syntax plot(...mai=c(0,1,1)) is ineffective Any advice please? -- r2151
