Is there a diferent way to do this?
Hi,
I started creating a small class but I'm courious about how it is working.
To create a instance of my class "Partri" I write this at Rgui:
x <- new("Partri", name="Gilvan")
and to change the slot "name" of this instance, I write:
setName(x, newname="Justino")
It is not working, because when I type "x" at Rgui, it shows

Some Tips about developing an interface.
Hi.
I just started studing R language and I saw there is a package to develop
user interface called tcltk. I read about it and I made some tests but I
found it a little poor and slow.. I was thinking if is possible to write a
user interface using java and ask to R to run all the maths I have and R
returns all the results, including graphs.
If someone has any suggestions to me I will appreciate,

How to make R packages?
I found the following document on making R packages. But it is old.
I'm wondering if there is more current ones and hopefully more
complete ones.

Help for numericDeriv function
Hi,
I am stuck on something for a couple days, I am almost about to give up.
This looks simple, but I can't figure out. I hope I can get some help here.
I am trying to do some symbolic and numerical derivations. Let me explain
the problem. Let's say, I have a matrix as follows:
> load <- matrix(c(3,0,1,4,1,3),nrow=3,ncol=2,byrow=TRUE)
>
> load

[LLVMdev] [LLVM] Forward temp label references on ARM in LDR with .ltorg in inline assembly are broken in trunk
I'm not entirely sure what caused this, but the following code, which used to behave as expected, is now broken:

void lolwut(void) {
__asm __volatile (
"ldr r1, =1f \n"
".ltorg \n"
"1: \n\t"
: : : "r0", "r1" );

scoping rules; summary
Hi everyone
thanks for the replies.
The issue was NOT a font problem; I deliberately chose ll1 and l11 as
examples of easily confused variable names (evidently these were too
easily confused ;-). The code snippet was written as intended, and
increment() contained a deliberate, highlighted, bug. I was asking
for guidance on avoiding/finding this sort of coding error.
That was why I wrote

Classes and methods
Hi R people:
I would like to learn about classes, methods, S3 and S4.
Which book would be the most helpful for this info, please: the green one
or the white(and blue) one?
Or is there something that would be even better, please?
Thanks in advance.
Sincerely,

Specifying Path Model in SEM for CFA
I'm using specify.model for the sem package. I can't figure out how to
represent the residual errors for the observed variables for a CFA
model. (Once I get this working I need to add some further constraints.)
Here is what I've tried:
model.sa <- specify.model()
F1 -> X1,l11, NA
F1 -> X2,l21, NA
F1 -> X3,l31, NA
F1 -> X4,l41, NA
F1 -> X5, NA, 0.20

scoping rules
Hi
I recently found a bug that was isomorphic to the following:
ll1 <- 2
increment <- function(x)
{
l11 <- 1
return(x+ll1) #bug here
}
Of course, R is obeying the scoping rules just fine, but I'm evidently
not setting the do.what.I.mean.not.what.I.say variable correctly.
Now, how do I avoid making this type of error? ... and what is the
best tool for tracking it down?

S3 vs. S4
Dear R People:
Could someone direct me to some documentation on the
difference between S3 and S4 classes, please?
For example, why would a person use one as opposed to another?
Maybe pros and cons of each?
Thanks in advance!

Duda gráfico DIN A-4
Hola,
¿Alguien me puede indicar cómo conseguir que un gráfico se adapte al formato DIN-A4, con su correspondiente verticalidad?. ¿Hay que hacerlo "manualmente" o existe algún parámetro/función que lo controle?.
Gracias.

par("din") vs dev.size()
Hello,
I was messing around with graphics, and noted an odd behavior of par("din"). If
the x11 device is empty, par("din") does not return the correct size
if the device
has been resized manually. dev.size() works correctly.
R version 2.7.1; Fedora 8
# case 1 - empty device

> dev.size()

RCov / RSpec segfaults on Ubuntu
Hi all,
I appreciate that this is not an RSpec question, but I wondered if
anyone out there can offer some pointers. We''re using the latest
versions of RSpec and RCov, and ruby --version says this (on the
Ubuntu build server):
ruby 1.8.6 (2008-07-17 patchlevel 279) [x86_64-linux]
We''re getting intermittent (yes, intermittent!) segfaults from the
build when running

Tidiest way of modifying S4 classes?
I wish to make modifications to the plot.pedigree function in the
kinship package. My attempts to contact the maintainer have been
unsuccessful, but my question is general, so specifics of the kinship
package might not be an issue.
My first attempt was to make a new function Plot.pedigree in the
.GlobalEnv which mostly achieved what I wanted to. However, I'm sure
that's not the tidiest
