Plea: No long unbroken lines, please!
Hi Folks, I don't often grumble, but this time I've found myself inconvenienced by a posting stored on R-help archives: https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2009-September/211095.html This was Karin Groothuis-Oudshoorn & Stef van Buuren's message on 10 September about the new version of MICE. This has been sent by software which inserted no line-breaks. As a result, each

FW: RE: iaxtel and iax.conf (HTML CONTENT, FYI)
I hate to post HTML to the list, but I refuse to respond to this, and I would like to say that whomever is using this service is kinda stupid for subscribing an email address to the list using this service. I hope they learn a lesson by us, the list users, NOT responding to this, and eventually, after not receiving any list mail, they?ll wonder ?hmm why is this list so dead?? Just my .02.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. Thats where the problem starts. If I set ppp0 as the default gw the internet doesnt work anymore. This is how im doing it... route del default route add default gw 217.32.81.74 dev ppp0 if I put it back to ppp1... route del default route add default gw 217.32.68.73 dev ppp1 It works fine again. plot symbol "+", but with variable bar lenghts
Hi, does anybody know of some plotting function or an easy way to generate "+" symbols with individually settable bar lengths? I tried just combining "|" and "-" as pch and setting the size via cex, but that doesn't really work since the two symbols have different default lengths. Is there a horizontal | or a longer "-" available? Thanks, Rainer

An unconstructive grumble
5 hours of configuration attempts, error after confusing error, documentation with examples that only show extracts of working configurations. I really feel like throwing in the towel with dovecot. It should not be this hard and frankly almost impossible to understand and configure for such an incedibly simple configuration. /home/vmail/domain.name/username/cur

Ext3 and external journals...
Hi, I am trying out ext3 with an external journal (on a battery backed RAM card). I use data=journal, and sync nfs writes go nice and fast :-) But.. I had to power cycle it (buggy VM.. grumble :-) and now I cannot get my filesystem back. It is only a test filesystem so I don't need the data. But I want this to work before I put real data on it. If I "fsck /dev/md1", it

[LLVMdev] missing llabs define in VS: DAGCombiner.cpp
grumble, grumble, MS does not have llabs() llabs() is not defined in Visual Studio, however, _abs64() is. But if I switch to _abs64() the linker does not resolve __abs64(). I thought _abs64() was suppose to be in the CRT library. Any hints for a solution? c:\devwl\llvm\lib\CodeGen\SelectionDAG\DAGCombiner.cpp(295) : error C3861: 'llabs': identifier not found, even with argument-dependent

Quick tip please!
I have two CSV files (exported from Excel), say file1 and file2. The have the same number of rows, and each has several columns, with names on the first line; and some of the columns in file1 are repeated in file2. Using the "foreign" package, I can read these in separately to dataframes say d1 and d2 with > d1<-read.csv("file1") >

formula(CO2)
The formula attribute of the builtin CO2 dataset seems a bit strange: > formula(CO2) Plant ~ Type + Treatment + conc + uptake What is one supposed to do with that? Certainly its not suitable for input to lm and none of the examples in ?CO2 use the above.

Anova - interpretation of the interaction term
Hi So carrying on my use of analysis of variance to check for the effects of two factors. It's made simpler by the fact that both my factors have only two levels each, creating four unique groups. I have a highly significant interaction term. In the context of the experiment, this makes sense. I can visualise the data graphically, and sure enough I can see that both factors have different

Python 2 compatibility for utility scripts
At the beginning of the year, I've landed a large set of patches to support both Python 2 and Python3 in most Python scripts. Looks like I missed some of them :-) At that time, backward portability with Python2 was still relevant, and I suspect it will still be the case for a few distributions that ship Python2 by default. That being said, Even RHEL8 uses Python3 by default, so at some point
