Mounting a Samba Share in /etc/fstab
Hey all,
As most of you know, I've been having problems (hopefully solved by now, won't know until friend is
able to reshare his box) with SAMBA over the internet.
On my local area network, I am using SAMBA for a one way connection just fine. my question is as
follows.
Can I make an fstab entry so I can mount the XP share whenever I boot? The reason I ask is because

Documentation clarification re: SLES9 and nsswitch
Hello,
I've been unable to succeed with Samba-Ldap setup on SLES9 until this
evening.
I thought I had a PAM issue but that was not the case.
To cut to the chase, I ran Yast's 'ldap-server' module without any changes
as it found the ldap server settings.
Once finished I could join the domain from XP Pro which is what I was
unable to do. I checked what Yast did and it

incomplete window contents when unminimizing
Hi,
Using Xgl, when a window is unminimized, sometimes (especially with
Firefox), the window contents are not immediately visible (partially
or completely) until an unminimize animation is completed. That is,
sometimes there are empty (transparent) rectangles within the window
(maybe corresponding to some Mozilla controls), and sometimes the
whole window is empty (only the decoration is visible).

Buffer Cache Thrashing
Rsync thrashes my buffer cache when transfering large files. I see that
some people worked on this problem about a year ago. Did they find a
workable solution? I'm getting tired of everything slowing to zero while
rsync grinds away.

I have read the faq, I have browsed the samba web sites, and I did go
through diagnose.txt and the other documentation but still...
none of the win95 boxes on my network can see my samba server in the

usage of "net use x: \\server\share" seem to work fine on the client
machines though as well as everything else in the diagnose.txt document.

CentOS6 gvfs disk thrashing
We recently started upgrading users' workstations to CentOS6. Now
we've come across an interesting issue:
~user/.local/share/gvfs-metadata is filling up with tons of files.
Once there are around 69270 of them, no more are being created, and
the NetApp filer the user's home is on logs:

winbind works as expected (thanks to documention authors). There seems
to be no problem with file sharing, ACL is working properly (I'm using

Need help troubleshooting TCP thrashing, possible kernel bug?
I have a FreeNAS 9.3 server running Samba Version 4.3.6 and a bunch of
Windows and Linux clients. Everything's been running fine for a while and
nothing changed on the server.
Recently (Jan 27th) some of the Archlinux clients updated from a 4.8.x
kernel to a 4.9.x kernel. Again, things ran fine. Then on Jan 30th around
2am the Archlinux clients using 4.9.x kernels and utilizing mount.cifs to
