.Rprofile, date tagging history, loading packages
Dear R-Helpers,
I'm fiddling with my .Rprofile in Windows XP & R 2.7.0 Beta. I prefer to
manually save my workspace but automatically save my command history via
the .Rprofile. That is working fine once I found that "utils::" was
required before the loadhistory & savehistory functions. What I would
like to do is add a separator line with a date between the histories of

install.packages and bundles
Hi All,
Since I changed the gregmisc package into a bundle, I almost daily questions
asking how to get the individual packages contained in the bundle.
The standard example arises when someone attempts to install and then use my
'genetics' package which depends on the 'gdata' package contained within the
'gregmisc' bundle. The install succedes, but when the user does

Returning Data Frame from Function for use Outside Function
I have a function (see below) that does some bootstrapping (I am happy to
expand offline why I could use existing functions.) I put my results into
and empty matrix and add a row of results with each iteration. My problem is
i am a new user to R and I don't understand data frames, matrices, elements,
and vectors well. What I would like is to have a data frame I can manipulate

dealing with package bundles (was RE: Gregmisc)
Given the confusions that some users have regarding package bundles, I'd
like to suggest some changes to how package bundles are handled.
My understanding is that a package bundle is essentially a convenient way to
distribute related packages, so that users can download/install them in one
shot. However, some users apparently get confused that one can do
install.packages("abundle")

pmatch inconsistency
The pmatch help (see also section 4.3.2 in the R Language Definition)
claims that pmatch with duplicates.ok=FALSE provides the same
functionality as R's argument matching algorithm, modulo how empty
strings are matched.
Here's an undocumented inconsistency between pmatch and R's argument
matching algorithm:

Muliple partial matches with pmatch
I am using R0.64.1 under Windows 95.
The help for `pmatch' states that:
If `duplicates.ok' is false multiple matches will result
in the value of `nomatch' being returned, and if it is
true, the index of the first matching value will be
returned.
The help for pmatch gives the following examples:

Regular Expression and Pmatch
Hi, I wonder if there's a good intro to the pattern matching using R? I'm a perl
programer and find it too confusing and complex to use regular expressions under R.
For instance, why does pmatch("d","ad") returns NULL? How would I call the
functions in order to match any portion of the string? Under what circumstances shall
backslush be used? I try to extract all

bug in `pmatch' (error with too long 'choices')?
I observed the following:

match.arg("whit", colors())
yields:

this message actually comes from `pmatch'. using a suitable subset of

fail in adding library in new version.
Dear all,
I really appreciate your help. I think I have a little advancement. ^_^
When I enter the Dos environment, at first, into the D:\>, I type the following code:
cd Program Files\R\rw2011\
bin\R CMD install /example
"example" is in the d:\, which include the R folder and "DESCRIPTION" file, But I wrote nothing in the "DESCRIPTION" file. Actually, I

R-2.0.0 Install problem for package bundle with inter-dependent n amespaces
I have a revised version of the gregmisc package, which I've converted into
a package bundle each of which has a namespace: gplots, gmodels, gdata,
gtoools. Of course, there are interdependencies among these namespaces:
gsun374: /tmp [11]> cd gregmisc/
gsun374: gregmisc [12]> grep import */NAMESPACE

Strange update behavior of gregmisc
Hello,
I notice an odd behavior of gregmisc package when using
"update.packages()" via R --no-save (as root).
Every time I launch update.packages() gregmisc is repeatedly selected
for upgrade. Current available version of gregmisc is 2.08 according
to 'installed.packages()'. Despite I obviousely have already installed
the most up to date gregmisc, gregmisc will be updated

update.packages keeps trying to update gregmisc
If I issue the command
> update.packages()
it wants to update 'gregmisc' but then if I do it again right afterwards it
still wants to update 'gregmisc'. It should have updated everything
the first time and should not be trying to update anything the second
time. Any comments?
