splom, plotmath: how to add three lines of information with alignment?
Dear expeRts, I would like to create a scatter plot matrix with splom(). The lower panel should contain some additional information about the samples shown in the upper panel plot, see the splom() call below. Now two questions came up: (1) The lower panels show "tau" and "alpha" on top of each other. How can I plot *three* expressions on top of each other? I tried several

How to vectorize
Dear R-List, I would like to write nicely the names of some isotopes on a plot. The code bellow works fine. plot(1:10,1:10) text(c(2,4,8),c(2,4,8),labels=c(expression(italic(phantom(0)^{78}*Ge)), expression(italic(phantom(0)^{137}*Cs)), expression(italic(phantom(0)^{129*m}*Te))), cex=3 ) But, since I have a lot of

Quiz: Who finds the nicest form of X_1^\prime?
Dear expeRts, I would like to create a plotmath-label of the form X_1^\prime. Here is how to *not* do it [not nicely aligned symbols]: plot(0,0,main=expression(italic(X*minute[1]))) plot(0,0,main=expression(italic(X[1]*minute))) plot(0,0,main=expression(italic(X)[1]*minute)) Any suggestions? Cheers, Marius

How to use expression in label with xYplot
Dear R-List, I want to use the label function (from Hmisc library) to allow for the names of my isotopes. library(Hmisc) library(lattice) library(grid) num <- c("78","137","129m") nom <- c("Ge","Cs","Te") df <- data.frame(GE78=seq(nom),CS137=seq(nom),TE129m=seq(nom)) if I use this function to create the labels : lab <-

How to use expression(italic()) in a "vectorized" way (within a function)?
Dear expeRts, I would like to use expression() for creating labels in a splom, as shown in the first minimal example below. Is there any way I can simplify having to write "expression(italic(...))" several times? The second example is what I tried so far, but I can't manage to get italic() to work. Moreover, it still seems bulky... Cheers, Marius ## minimal example (working but

lattice: horizontal alignment of labels in key
Dear R users I have problems horizontally aligning labels in keys of lattice plots when the labels make use of plotmath. Here's a self-contained example: dat <- data.frame(x = rnorm(10), y = rnorm(10), z = factor(rep(c("a", "b"), each = 5))) xyplot(y ~ x, dat, groups = z, auto.key = list(columns = 2, text =

problem with axis labels
Dear R users, Below are some R commands which produce a y-axis label that is not wholly in the viewing area of the eps file (or the x11 window). I have tried experimenting with the postscript bounding box, and using such R commands as over(phantom(0),...) but I make the whole y-label visible. Does anyone have any suggestions for how I may fix this. (Please CC mailing list email to p.stansell

New Sampling question
I have another question about drawing samples from a data frame. This might sound really tricky. Let me use a data frame I have posted earlier as an example: SubID CSE1 CSE2 CSE3 CSE4 WSE1 WSE2 WSE3 WSE4 1 6 5 6 2 6 2 2 4 2 6 4 7 2 6 6 2 3 3 5 5 5 5

Lattice equivalent of par(mfrow = )
Dear r-helpers, Does anyone have a straightforward example of putting together three unrelated (expect for a common y-axis) xyplot() figures in what would be in base graphics a par(mfrow = c(1, 3)) arrangement? _____________________________ Professor Michael Kubovy University of Virginia Department of Psychology USPS: P.O.Box 400400 Charlottesville, VA 22904-4400 Parcels: Room 102

text(): combine expression and line break
Hi, I would like to plot some extra text in my plot. This should be a two line text including a special character (sigma). I tried so far a to use expression in combination with paste and "\n"... but I can't get the line break... lattice + plotmath: how to get a variable in bold face?
Dear all, How can I get a bold "1000" in the title? I would like to use a variable (as opposed to putting in "1000" directly). library(lattice) N <- 1000 xyplot(0~0, xlab.top=list(label=as.expression(bquote(bold("foo" ~ .(N) ~ "bar"))), font=2, cex=1.2)) ## => "font=2" is ignored (of course) Cheers, Marius

x/y coordinates of dendrogram branches
Dear R-users, I need some help concerning the plotting of dendrograms for hierarchical agglomerative clustering. The agglomeration niveau of each step should be displayed at the branches of the dendrogram. For this I need the x/y coordinates of the branch-agglomerations of the dendrogram. The y-values are known (the heights of the agglomeration), but how can I get the x-values? > mydata

Align expression and text in mtext()
Dear R-helpers, I have trouble aligning an expression with a subscript, and text, in margin text: par(mar=c(6,6,1,1)) b <- barplot(1:3) mtext(c("A","B","C"), at=b, side=1, line=1, cex=1.3) mtext(expression(italic(C)[a]~(more~text)), at=0, line=1, side=1,cex=1.3) As explained in the help files and elsewhere, I understand that the expression is aligned by the

mtext uses the typographical descender to align text
<> Hello One sometimes (quite often really ) marvel at the choice of defaults in R's graphic engine. For some obscure reason, mtext uses the typographical descender (bottom of letters) to align text. That is: "gG" will end up slightly higher that "GG". Depending on the font, "Q" might end up higher than "O". (for explanation of baseline

About multiple panels with limited space in-between
Hi R users, I have a question about plotting. The following two datasets are an example. What I have in mind is like the attached figure, but just have two rows, top row is for DF1, bottom row is for DF2. The top and bottom rows, have x-axis as var1, var2, var3, etc, while the y-axis represents A. For each row, only the leftmost panel has y-axis ticks and label. For the two rows, only the bottom

[PATCH] Always use mipmaps in cube plugin
Currently, the cube plugin uses mipmapping only when cube is unfolded. When the cube is rotated, mipmaps are not used, which leads to ugly look of textures. The attached patch fixes this. This leads to another kind of artifacts, which are fixable with anisotropic filtering. http://team.pld-linux.org/~wolf/aniso.png The leftmost image is the current state of cube plugin. Adjusting OHCL data via quantmod
Hello, I'm trying to do two things: -1. Ensure that I understand how quantmod adjust's OHLC data -2. Determine how I ought to adjust my data. My overarching-goal is to adjust my OHLC data appropriately to minimize the difference between my backtest returns, and the returns I would get if I was trading for real (which I'll be doing shortly). Background: -1. I'm using Alpha

Howto sort dataframe columns by colMeans
I read from external data source containing several columns. Each column represents value of a metric. The columns are time series data. I want to sort the resulting dataframe such that the column with the largest mean is the leftmost column, descending in colMean values to the right. I see many solutions for sorting rows based on some column characteristic, but haven't found any

how to implement a circular buffer with R
Some wavelet analysis experts have implemented periodic boundary conditions for signals. I need to implement a circular buffer. Something like: "12345abcdefgh12345abcdefgh" so that at each step the riightmost element is moved to the leftmost index and everything else is properly shifted: "h12345abcdefgh12345abcdefg", "gh12345abcdefgh12345abcdef", ....
