Not missing at random
Hello!   I would like to sample 30 % of cases (with at least 1 value lower than 3) and among them I want to set all values lower than 3 (within selected cases) as NA (NMAR- Not missing at random). I managed to sample cases, but I don’t know how to set values (lower than 3) as NA.   R code:   x <-

Principal Component Analysis
Dear R buddies, I’m trying to run Principal Component Analysis, package princomp: http://stat.ethz.ch/R-manual/R-patched/library/stats/html/princomp.html. My question is: why do I get different results with pca = princomp (x, cor = TRUE) and pca = princomp (x, cor = FALSE) even when I standardize variables in my matrix? Best regards, Blaž Simčič [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

R-beta: is there a way to get rid of loop?
Here is a programming question. The code I am using is quite slow and I was wondering if there is a way to get rid of the for loop. I am dealing with "interaction" in 2x2 table, and am using Edwards's G_I (Likelihood, p. 194). I label the cells in the table as follows stim response "y" "n" total -------------------------------- y hit miss nsignal

generate matrices
Dear all, I would like to generate 500 matrices of 20 numbers from standard normal distribution with names x1,x2,x3,….x500.   I tried with loop for, but I don’t know how to name matices : for (i in 1:500)  {    x[[i]] <- matrix(rnorm(20), 4)     } Any suggestion? Thanks,  Blaž [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Hi guys, I want to transfer the following code from R into .Call compatible form. How can i do that? Thanks!!! C function is wrong under Windows 7
Dear mailing list, I have a C function that gives me a wrong result when I run it under Windows 7. This is the code under Linux (RHEL5): > library(phenoTest) > data(epheno) > sign <- sample(featureNames(epheno))[1:20] > score <- getFc(epheno)[,1] > head(score) 1007_s_at 1053_at 117_at 121_at 1255_g_at 1294_at -1.183019 1.113544 1.186186 -1.034779 -1.044456

patterns of missing data: determining monotonicity
Here is a problem that perhaps someone out here has an idea about. It vaguely reminds me of something I've seen before, but can't place. Can anyone help? For multiple imputation, there are simpler methods available if the patterns of missing data are 'monotone' --- if Vj is missing then all variables Vk, k>j are also missing, vs. more complex methods required when the

Specifying interactions in rms package... error
I am encountering an error I do not know how to debug. The error arises when I try to add an interaction term involving two continuous variables (defined using rcs functions) to an existing (and working) model. The new model reads: model5 <- lrm( B_fainting ~ gender+ rcs(exactage, 7) + rcs(DW_nadler_bv, 7) + rcs(drawtimefrom8am, 7)+ DW_firsttime+ DW_race_eth +

Defining plot colors based on a variable
Hi, I have been trying unsuccessfully to plot data using different colors based on a variable within a subset of an imported file. The file I am reading is about 20000 lines long and has a column (in the example called FILE) that contains approximately 100 unique entries. I would like to plot a subset of the data from the file and key the color from the FILE column, This is what my file looks like

R CMD check
I am unclear on whether to run R CMD check pgkname as user or as root on Linux. When running as user, after all the latex, html, and man files are created, I get the following error message: Rdconv(): Couldn't open '': Permission denied Has anyone dealt with that message? When I run R CMD check a second time, all latex, html, etc. are recreated which takes quite a while. Is there

NaN causes "error in fitter" with cph.calibrate from pkg Design
I have been attempting to use cph models to get better calibration of my models for which I had originally used logistic regression. I tried running with 40 repetitions and got an error. I then tried 500 repetitions (thinking that the NaNs in the output below might be caused by that choice) and then let my computer crunch for several hours and got only the same error message and

zip.unpack() crashes R (PR#2820)
Full_Name: Henrik Bengtsson Version: R v1.7.0 OS: WinXP Pro Submission from: (NULL) (130.235.2.229) There seems to be an upper limit of the number of files (approx 1000 files) a zip-file can contain when unpacking it with zip.unpack(). This results in an R crash. This bug is urgent since install.packages() relies on zip.unpack() and too big packages/bundles won't install with the current R

REading the netCDF format into R
Hi! I have been coding a C-program which will read data from the netCDF format (a commonly used file format in the geophysical research community: see Unidata's URL for explanation: http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/packages/netcdf/), and have got to the point where I don't know what the error message mean. The C-program is called nc2r.c. When compiling the code, I get a number of warnings,

Conditional looping over a set of variables in R
Here's the problem I'm trying to solve in R: I have a data frame that consists of about 1500 cases (rows) of data from kids who took a test of listening comprehension. The columns are their scores (1 = correct, 0 = incorrect, . = missing) on 140 test items. The items are numbered sequentially and are ordered by increasing difficulty as you go from left to right across the columns. I want
