Using R in combination with GRASS for image classification
Hello everybody! For my academic project work I intend to use only open-source software. My objective is to carry out classification of satellite digital images using Geostatistics. I found out GRASS is a good software for image processing. Also a good geostatistics software is R. It is also known that R can be used in combination with GRASS. But I am not able to confirm that satellite digital

Madogram, rodogram, semi-variogram of satellite imagery
Greetings! Is there in any package for R which can help me generate madogram, rodogram, semi-variogram, cross variogram from landsat imagery. I intend to select portions of large imagery (i.e., obtain subsets) and generate the above said texture layers. A simple Google search led to me a result suggesting SpatialExtremes for generating madograms. However I am not sure about its capability to

spgrass6 and aggregation (bis)
Dear all, I have some additionale question concerning the spgrass6 package. * When you set a region in GRASS, does the readGRASS6 function in R only load data contained in the zoomed region or the whole map ? * When you have a MASK map in grass, does the readGRASS6 function in R only load data contained inside the MASK area ? Could this be the problem ? Thanks, Jessica

installing GRASS-R packages
Hi, I tried to install R packages required for the GRASS-R interface by using the following command (copied from http://www.geog.uni-hannover.de/grass/statsgrass/grass6_r_install.html): /install.packages (c("sp", "spgrass6","rgdal","maptools"), dependencies =TRUE)/ rgdal package was installed successfully; There were problems to find 'sp' and

plot two variograms on a same graph
Hi, I would know how to plot two variograms on a same graph. I can plot one by one but I would draw both on the same one. Is it possible? Do i need any special package? Thanks! Cordialement Damien Landais

Installing sp and rgdal libraries
Hi, I am still a bit of a beginner with R but I had it all working spgrass6, RMySQL, sp, etc... Then I wanted to install spatstat, this required updating R, all was going fine until I tried to connect to grass gis using spgrass6 library, it wouldn't let be install the package due to a dependency with rgdal. rgdal will not install as the sp package is 1:0.9-56-2 and sp requires a higher

[S] Gstat: multivariable geostatistics for S (R and S-Plus)
The majority of the functionality present in the gstat stand-alone program (http://www.gstat.org/) is now available as a package/library for the S language (R, S-Plus), again called gstat. The package provides multivariable geostatistical modelling, prediction and simulation, as well as several visualisation functions. Gstat was started 10 years ago and was released under the GPL in 1996; the

Aid with 3-D scatterplots
I am attempting to classify pixels from a Landsat image by using their associated numbers in bands 2, 3, and 4 (It's from an assignment on classification). To aid me, I want to create a 3-D scatterplot using the "cloud" command. Due to my ignorance of the finer plotting functions, I am unable to display the scale on the three axes or to display the grid. My dataframe (RS)

tune svm
Hello, I hope you can help me! I`m trying to tune svm parameters: cost and gamma for a landsat image classification, but I get an error and I can't understand it. I write this: > tune(svm, Class~., data = mdt01bis, ranges = list(gamma = 2^(-15:3), cost > = 2^(-5:15))) and R gives: Error en predict.svm(model, if (!is.null(validation.x)) validation.x else if (useFormula)

GRASS raster data processing
Hi, I just imported two raster maps into R using the SPGRASS6 package, one containing elevation data and the other containing an erosion index: Kar_inc <-readRAST6("Incis_Kar", plugin=FALSE) Kar_dem <- readRAST6("DEM_Kar", plugin=FALSE) I just wanted to make a xy plot of erosion parameter vs elevation. How does this work? I don't get how to handle

Spatial regression
Dear list members, I have a large dataset with point data. Each data point has X, Y, number of species present and values for one single explanatory variable. Each point was generated from a polygon grid shapefile and they are at equal distances. I conducted GLS analyses introducing variance structures and correlation structures to improve the model. I plotted variograms before and after adding

Cross-correlograms or cross-variograms in R?
Hello group, For my PhD I'm working on a spatial sampling grid. I do have two data sets which I'd like to compare using cross-correlograms or cross-variograms. Is this an option in one of the R-packages? I've been searching the R-help archive and the available package-documentations, but I can't find how to do this. Thanks in advance, Ren?.

readVECT6 and readRAST6 fails with R and GRASS 7 ???
Hello all, I'm having troubles getting R to load data from GRASS 7. I suspect I have installed something wrong, but can't figure out what. Any suggestions for what I could look for or how to trouble shoot this? Thanks in advance for any help! After having other issues last week, we have upgraded Debian to the testing version. The other problems are solved, but now I can't get

Variograms and large distances
Hello R list, I need to compute empirical variograms using data from a large geographic area (~10^6 km2). Although I could not find a specific reference, I assume that both geoR and gstat calculate distances among data points assuming points are on a flat surface (using the Pythagorean Theorem). Because the location of my data is large and located near the pole, assuming that latitude and

Problems with readVECT6 in spgrass6 package: A possible solution.
Hi I am working with spgrass6 package and GRASS v.6.2. Everything was fine until I tryed to read a vector file with readVECT6 (and other related vector commands, like vInfo). When I ran these commands, the problem immediately appeared (" Sorry, is not a valid flag" ). Ok, the solution is easy: - You have to download the spgrass package within a folder, in order to install

geoR/variog4() not returning all directions
Mac OS 10.3.5, R 2.0.0 latest version of geoR I have an incomplete 5 x 20 spatial array of samples (60 out of 100 possible locations) for which I would like to calculate directional variograms using variog4(). Unfortunately, I can't get it to return all 4 directions. It returns variograms for 45, 90, and 135 degrees, omitting 0 degrees (pi/4, pi/2, 3pi/4, omitting 0). If I specify 0
