Is it possible to "right align" text in R graphics?
Hello all,
The following line of code includes a right-to-left language text, yet the
R graphics engine displays it from left to right. One problem this causes
is when there are parenthesis in the test, here is a basic example?
plot(1:10, main = "שלום (טקסט)")
Is there a way to make sure the text is displayed from right to left?
Many thanks for any suggestions,
Tal

Unexplained behavior of level names when using ordered factors in lm?
Hello dear all,
I am unable to understand why when I run the following three lines:
set.seed(4254)
> a <- data.frame(y = rnorm(40), x=ordered(sample(1:5, 40, T)))
> summary(lm(y ~ x, a))
The output I get includes factor levels which are not relevant to what I am
actually using:
Call:
> lm(formula = y ~ x, data = a)
> Residuals:
> Min 1Q Median 3Q Max

How to read.table with “Hebrew” column names (in R)?
(I am reposting this question after a few months without a solution...)
Hi all,
I am trying to read a .txt file, with Hebrew column names, but without
success.
I uploaded an example file to: http://www.talgalili.com/files/aa.txt
And tried the command:
read.table("http://www.talgalili.com/files/aa.txt", header = T, sep = "\t")
This returns me with:

How to turn a LaTeX Sweave file (Rnw) into .HTML/.odf/.docx? (under windows)
Hello dear R help members,
I have found several references on how to do this, my question is if anyone
is actually using them - and if there are some strong points on what to use,
and how well it is working out.
My goal is to be able to easily create docs from R, but to be able to share
it with other researchers (who do not use LaTeX) so they could easily
copy/paste the tables and edit them for

Is there a way to have 'comment' keep a list?
Hello all,
I recently discovered the "comment" command.
I see it can only hold a vector of characters.
Is there a way (or an alternative), to make it possible to have it keep a
list?
(for example, to keep different pieces of information like date of creation,
information of each variable and so on)
The closest solution I can think of is using 'names' on the vector, like
this:

Capturing R console output into a file (sink+savehistory ??)
After reading more, I understand I didn't formulate my last question
correctly, so please allow me to rephrase:
What I am looking for is a way to save the R console session output.
That is, a command that would combine the results of using:
?sink # And
?savehistory
My motivation for this is that doing it will allow someone who is a blind
user of R to be able to easily export his results to

Combining several plots besides a dendrogram?
Hello all,
I would like to recreate the plot shown here (from a useR 2009
presentation):
http://www.agrocampus-ouest.fr/math/useR-2009/abstracts/pdf/Hocking.pdf
I downloaded the code for that image, and discovered that it relies on
external web services, and also having PERL installed on the computer.
I believe this could be done "locally" using the "seqLogo"

Windows 7, update.packages problem: "unable to move temporary installation"?
Hello all,
I am using R 2.13.0 with windows 7, after giving my user full privileges to
the R folder (as described
here<http://www.r-statistics.com/2011/04/how-to-upgrade-r-on-windows-7/>
).
This allows me to install new packages just fine.
However, when using update.packages(), to update existing packages, I keep
getting the following error (for example, when updating the MASS package):

Why can't "apply" be used with "as.factor" on a data.frame ?
Hi all,
Let's say I have a data.frame and wants to turn each of it's columns into a
factor.
My instinct would be to use as.factor with apply. But this won't work, and
result with a data.frame of characters.
I found another solution for how to achieve this, but I would also like to
understand - *WHY* does it work this way?
Here is an example script:
a <- data.frame(x1 = rnorm(100),

Why is vector assignment in R recreates the entire vector ?
Hello all,
A friend recently brought to my attention that vector assignment actually
recreates the entire vector on which the assignment is performed.
So for example, the code:
x[10]<- NA # The original call (short version)
Is really doing this:
x<- replace(x, list=10, values=NA) # The original call (long version)
# assigning a whole new vector to x
Which is actually doing this:
x<-

Why am I getting different results from cor VS ccf ?
Hi all,
I am getting different results from ccf and cor,
Here is a simple example:
set.seed(100)
N <- 100
x1 <- sample(N)
x2 <- x1 + rnorm(N,0,5)
ccf(x1,x2)$acf[ccf(x1,x2)$lag == -1]
cor(x1[-N], x2[-1])
Results:
> ccf(x1,x2)$acf[ccf(x1,x2)$lag == -1]
[1] -0.128027
> cor(x1[-N], x2[-1])
[1] -0.1301427

Hi all,
I was trying to run the latest version of RCurl on windows 7 with R 2.12 and
got a "missing libeay32.dll" error.
I now downloaded such a file from here:

And placed it in the system32 folder.
Now I get the following error:
