IDE with table/matrix preview
I know there are several threads about IDEs for R.
I've tried Tinn-R, but I am looking for an IDE (win) with a preview function that shows me the variables and the table/matrix etc. when klicking. (comparable to Matlab). Does an IDE like this exist or can't IDEs give this functionality in R?

1 dimensional optimization with local minima
I am using numerical optimization to fit a 1 parameter model, in which the
input parameter is bounded. I am currently using optimize(), however, the
problem turns out to have local minima, and optimize does not always seem to
find the global minimum. I could to write a wrapping function that tries
multiple intervals or starting values, but I would prefer a package that has
built-in methods to make

Good and modern Kernel Regression package in R with auto-bandwidth?
Hi all,
I am looking for a good and modern Kernel Regression package in R, which
has the following features:
1) It has cross-validation
2) It can automatically choose the "optimal" bandwidth
3) It doesn't have random effect - i.e. if I run the function at different
times on the same data-set, the results should be exactly the same... I am
trying "np", but I am seeing:

newton.method
Hi,
Is this method broken in R? I am using it to find roots of the following
function:
f(x) = 2.5*exp(-0.5*(2*0.045 - x)) + 2.5*exp(-0.045) + 2.5*exp(-1.5*x) - 100
It is giving an answer of -38.4762403 which is not even close (f(x) =
2.903809e+25 for x=-38.4762403). The answer should be around 0.01-0.1. This
function should converge..
Even for a simple function like f(x) = exp(-x) * x, it gives

global optimisation with inequality constraints
Dear All,
I would like to minimise a nonlinear function subject to linear inequality constraints as part of an R program. I have been using the constrOptim function. I have tried all of the methods that come with Optim, but nothing finds the correct solution. If I use the correct solution as the vector of starting values, though, my program does output the correct solution and optimum - the

optim(?, method=?L-BFGS-B?) stops with an error
I'll not copy all the previous material on this thread to avoid overload.
The summary is that all the methods Spencer has tried have some issues.
The bad news: This is not uncommon with optimization methods, in part because the problems are "hard",
in part because getting them implemented and linked to an interfacing approach like R is very tedious
and prone to omissions and

AEC gets worse as sample rate increases
Try using SPEEX_ECHO_SET_SAMPLING_RATE to specify your sampling rate.
Also, don't forget that the tail need to be longer (proportional to the
sampling rate). Last thing, if you use resampling, make sure you use a
decent resampler (the Speex one is fine) because otherwise, any aliasing
left will not be cancelled.

VAD performance worse on version 1.2rc1 than 1.1.12
Hi, I decide to write to the list because of a strange behaviour when
updating from version 1.1.12 to 1.2rc1.
My software was running fine with version 1.1.12, but now I want to benefit
from advances on AEC.
After updating the library to 1.2rc1 and do few changes on my sources, I run
the application and discovered that VAD doesn't work so fine as in previous
version 1.1.12 (3 years ago).

VAD performance worse on version 1.2rc1 than 1.1.12
Thank you, but I am thinking about trying to move VAD implementation from
1.1.12 to 1.2.
I'm not sure about how difficult it could be (maybe impossible due to Jean
Marc has disappear).
Have you tried this?
Cecile.

flac worse than shorten
I've found a wav of an entire album that shorten compresses better than
flac. Is this supposed to be possible?
wav 388,374,044
flac-6 239,109,203
shn 236,457,697
Cheers.

Behind on email and getting worse
Hi folks,
You may have noticed I haven't been very active on the lists recently.
At the moment I'm very busy in a non-technical capacity to get
xiph.org set up and somewhat more self-sufficient in a number of ways
after the demise of iCast. It's work that needs to be done and in
general that work is going well.
However, it's taking alot of time I'd otherwise be spending

Hunter,
You can look in ices/src/libshout/configure.in at the top I think.
Icecast doesn't have SMP issues that I know of, as we ran it on SMP
systems for

What did you change for this last test, if you didn't turn off yp?

Icecast Problems Get Worse
Do you know if this problem exists in Icecast2? Is it even worth fixing in
the 1.x codebase?
Are we the first people to see the bug?
