undocumented objects in a package
Dear R-devel, I recall that there used to be a mechanism to get around the requirement that all objects in a package have associated documentation; i.e., a way to specify a list of objects (mostly functions) that are not considered as part of the package API. Is this still available? I cannot find any mention in R-exts. I realize that the way to go is to have a name space, and eventually

how to exclude terms preceded by - from model frame
[I believe few users manipulate formulae and model frames like this, so I'm posting here instead of R-help.] I just found out that model.frame() includes all terms, including those preceded by "-" in the formula, in its output (as mentioned on its help page). Is there a recommended way of excluding "negative" terms? My guess is that I can use info in the terms attribute

Built-in R GUI type features
All: The select.list() command brings up a "modal dialog box with a (scrollable) list of items ..." etc. -- i.e., a GUI control. I also know about winDialog, file.choose and the winMenu commands. What other such GUIisms are built into ** base ** R (I know about the tcltk package)? Or, better yet, how can I search on or list them? Many thanks. Bert Gunter Biometrics Research RY 84-16

packages for extracting subtrees
Hi. I did write those functions, and sent them (I thought) to one of the R maintainers to see whether they would be appropriate for inclusion (because I'd seen some requests on the mailing lists). However, I'm happy to post them -- I should have thought of it before. WARNING: I've tested these functions on some data arising in my work and also on the USArrests data that comes with

Rprofile.site assignments occur in base package (PR#2448)
Not sure whether this is a feature or bug -- but it does not appear to be documented. R1.6.1 on Windows NT 4.00.1381 Objects assigned in the Rprofile.site file (e.g. foo<-'something') are put into package:base not .GlobalEnv on startup. Objects assigned in the .Rprofile file are put into .GlobalEnv. This doesn't seem consistent to me. The objects exist in base only for the

Weird Windows startup menu display problem in 1.7.0 (PR#2817)
Folks: Winnt; R1.7.0 (freshly installed) running under Rgui.exe.,MDI=yes. The following is repeatable: On startup, in my Rprofile.site file, I use winMenuAdd() etc. to install some user menus. However, they do not appear when R GUI window opens. If I minimize and restore the window, the added menus now are present. The exact same procedure under 1.6.2 with exactly the same Rprofile.site and

Lwd ignored when printing on Windows
Dear R-help, Has anyone notice the problem that, on Windows (NT and XP), when printing a graph using the "File -> Print..." menu in the graphics window to print the graph, that line width seemed to be ignored in the printed output? For example, if I make a plot with plot(1:10, type="l", lwd=5), it looks right on screen, but when printed out using the menu, it looks like
