optim with BFGS--what may lead to this, a strange thing happened
Dear R Users on a self-written function for calculating maximum likelihood probability (plz check function code at the bottom of this message), one value, wden, suddenly jump to zero. detail info as following: w[11]=2.14 lnw =2.37 2.90 3.76 ... regw =1.96 1.77 1.82 .... wden=0.182 0.178 0.179... w[11]=2.14 lnw=2.37 2.90 3.76 ... regw =1.96 1.77 1.82 .... wden=0.182

replace loops with matrix
Hey, R users I am using?numerical method for my research paper and the computation burden is very heavy. first I tried to do it with loops, example code as following, and it take hours to converge for only 200 obs. and my real data has 4000 obs. and the optimization command that I use is: optim(guess,myfunc1,data=mydata, method="BFGS",hessian=T)) then I tried matrix

Marginal Effect larger than 1 for a binary variable (summary.Design after lrm)
Dear All: I run a logistic regression (using lrm in the Design package), and after that, I use the command "summary" to get the marginal effects of each variable. But one strange thing happens on my binary dependent variable: The marginal effect of it jumping from 0 to 1 is 1.77. I believe the marginal effect of binary variable x1 has interpretation should be P(Y=1|x1=1,

How to remove the quote "" in the data frame?
If I do not add "ress" into the data frame "res", there is no quote in the data frame. However, I add "ress", all column were found the quote. How to remove it? If you can delete the quote in the file "ress", that is better. Thanks. > ress[1:10] [1] "ABHO.ABNE" "ABHO.ACBA" "ABHO.ACGI" "ABHO.ACKO"

Marginal Effects of continuous variable in lrm model (Design package)
Dear all: When I am trying to get the marginal effects: summary(result7,adv_inc_ratio=mean(m9201 $adv_inc_ratio),adv_price_ratio=mean(m9201$adv_price_ratio), ...(SOME MORE CONTINUOUS AND DISCRETE VARIABLES BUT I AM NOT LISTING)... regW=c (0,mean(m9201$regW),1), regWM=c(0,mean(m9201$regWM),1)) It gave out an error message: Error in summary.Design(result7, adv_inc_ratio = mean(m9201

From RISKS: secret scrubbing code removed by optimizers
This showed up in RISKS and no one has mentioned it here yet, so.. OpenSSH contains lots of code like: char *password = read_passphrase(prompt, 0); [do stuff] memset(password, 0, strlen(password));

[LLVMdev] problem on clang+gold
Hi there, I compiled clang+gold using a gcc under path /s/gcc-4.3.1/bin/. Later on I do configure and make for flex-2.5.35, and the following command is invoked: "/path/to/my/gold/ld" --hash-style=gnu --no-add-needed --eh-frame-hdr -m elf_i386 -dynamic-linker /lib/ld-linux.so.2 -o flex /usr/lib/gcc/i386-redhat-linux/4.1.2/../../../crt1.o

[LLVMdev] request for help writing a register allocator
Hi Susan, > But this doesn't seem to be happening; the stores to memory are there but > the loads are not. > > Any ideas what's going wrong? Are you using VirtRegMap::addSpillPoint and VirtRegMap::addRestorePoint ? If not you may need to add calls to them to let the rewriter know where to insert the loads/stores. > If not, any advice on how to generate the loads

[LLVMdev] request for help writing a register allocator
I found the problem! My generated code is spilling correctly but is not reloading at all. For example, if the original code has the equivalent of this (where %1024 is a virtual reg): %1024 = xxx ... yyy = %1024 and I find no physical register for %1024, then I assign it to physical register %edi and to a stackslot. That creates code like this: %edi = xxx store from %edi to the

dplyr help
A better thanks would be to post the solution that met your needs... particularly since in spite of our efforts it appears we may not have understood your problem. A small sample data set generated with dput along with your code would be helpful in making sure others learn along with you. -- Sent from my phone. Please excuse my brevity. row.names in dunes and dunes.env?
Hello, I've got a small dataset on box turtle shell measurements that I would like to perform a detrended correspondence analysis on. I thought that it would be interesting to examine the morphometrics for each species in the area of overlap and in areas where neither species occurs.  I've taken a look at the dune and dune.env datasets in vegan. Using the str() command gives me  >

* and Fax
Hi, I think this is one area that needs to be developed. I am curently implementing a system for my home so cannot really justify the cost of financially supporting the development of this when all I really need to do is buy a telephone extension lead for my existing fax modem!!! I am more than willing to devote some testing/documentation time (I am not really a programmer) if that helps.

I'm interested in some Java implementation of a audio streaming client, therefor I was looking for some info about the protocol. Please -- where can I find information? J?rgen Knauth
