Better way than an ifelse statement?
Hello All, I am trying to create a column of weights based off of factor levels from another column. I am using the weights to calculate L scores. Here is an example where the first column are scores, the second is my "factor" and the third I want to be a column of weights. I can do what I want with an ifelse statement (see below), but I am wondering if anyone knows of a cleaner way

Return one value, print another
Dear R users, I am stuck trying to figure out how to make a function return one value and print another.? Here is an example function: ################## eg <- function(x, digits=4) { xbar <- mean(x) sdx <- sd(x) value <- list(xbar, sdx) names(value) <- c("Mean of X", "SD of X") return(value)} ################## My current "solution" has been to

download truncating large files
Hi there, I have had a problem with loading the package XLConnectJars_0.2-0.zip from the CRAN mirrors. The problem occurs when executing utils:::menuInstallPkgs() I have traced the problem down to the "download" internal command. It appears that files over approx 15 MB are being truncated. The exact point of truncation varies slightly but the truncation is on a 4096-byte boundary. I

Might want to allow different host keys for different ports on same host
Hi, and here's the next feature request, which sounds interesting. Also I think I won't need much extra code to add this feature. So what do you guys think? > `ssh' with its host key checking is incompatible with the use of > `redir' to map different ports on a gateway/firewall system to > different systems behind the firewall. > For instance, I redirect ports as

library for URL parameters adding, removing, or replacing?
i think PHP doesn''t have such simple functions yet... does Ruby have it? if in PHP, when we add a param to the URL $redirectURL = $printPageURL . "?mode=1"; it works if $printPageURL is "http://www.somesite.com/print.php", but if $printPageURL is changed in the global file to "http://www.somesite.com/print.php?newUser=1", then the URL becomes badly

Managing permissions for web folders
We have a web folder /var/www/somesite that's a root for one of the sites. Apache serves files out of here. It is an svn checkout, so that updates could be done by using svn up. Everything has been going great when I use the root user to update, but now I need to give access to other people to make deployments, and it doesn't seem to be easy to do using regular users. I have created a

SetInternet2, RCurl and proxy
Dear all, Using the SetInternet2(TRUE) option works wonders with R in my sealed down work-environment. However, I'd like to use RCurl and apparently the proxy settings are not carried over. Is it possible to figure out the proxy-IP and port number from R after invoking SetInternet2? //M

transferring SIP call: no voice
I'm trying to connect a sip call from sipgate to Asterisk A to Asterisk B. Both are behind NAT, but port forwarded. I get the connection, but no voice - either in or out. I can call on SIP from A to B (and from B to A). Do it all the time. Asterisk A receives SIP calls from Junction and Teliax. CLI on A looks right: == Using SIP RTP TOS bits 184 == Using SIP RTP CoS mark 5 ==

pass names from dataframe as arguments
R users, I am trying to write some functions where names from a dataframe are arguments. I know it is done in functions like lm(), but I haven't been able to figure out how unless I attach the dataframe first or wrap the names in expression() so they are not evaluated immediately. How can I get around this? For instance, here is a simple function: myfun <- function(x, spliton,

Configuring Proxy: Proxy Authentication Required with --internet2
Hi there I'm trying to configure R to get access to the internet. Using the Internet Explorer a proxy .pac script is used. Reading some older threads I found that I can use the --internet2 option. When choosing a mirror I get the error: "407 Proxy Authentication Required". This seems reasonable since I have to log in when using the IE as well. But where do I enter username and
