How to apitalize leading letters & else of personal names?
Dear R world, Do you know about a function that would capitalize in the correct manner first and family names? I found in the cwhmisc only the CapLeading function, but it just does not do the job, taking care only to capitalize the first letter of a word. I am looking for a function that would recognize " |'|Mc|-" and capitalize the first letter following these characters. An

how to convert a data.frame to a list of dist objects for individual differences MDS?
I have a 45 x 16 data frame consisting of dissimilarities among 10 colors, giving in each column the 45 = 10*9/2 pairwise judgments for one of 16 subjects. The rownames identify each pair of colors, e.g, "AC" = ("A","C"), and the pairs are ordered by columns in the lower triangle of each distance matrix. > helm.raw <-

using lapply with recode
Hello: Forgive me, this is surely a simple question but I can't figure it out, having consulted the help archives and "Data Manipulation With R" (Spector). I have a list of 11 data frames with one common variable in each (prov). I'd like to use lapply to go through and recode one particular level of that common variable. I can get the recode to work, but it only returns the

Disable combining of loads and stores in instcombine
> Why do you want this? The goal is to share arrays between multiple tiles on a manycore architecture by splitting arrays between tiles. With a DRF memory model, it makes sense to elide multiple loads to the same memory location between barriers.; IIRC the semantics for volatile don’t allow this eliding. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... filtering in aggregate
Hello all, I have a data frame with year, month, species, fishing gear and catch (Y, M, S, F, C) and I want the sum of C by Y for species "A" and fishing gear "trawl". I tried things like aggregate(C[S=="A" & F=="trawl"], list (Year = Y[S=="A" & F=="trawl"]), fun=sum), but it didn't worked. To overcome this problem I did

re-ordering bwplot
Dear list: I'm using bwplot to compare concentrations by location and treatment as in: # using built in data bwplot( conc ~ Type : Treatment, data = CO2 ) I would like the order of the plots to be: 3,4,1,2. I can't seem to figure this out with index.cond or permc.cond. Any help is appreciated! Brad Eck [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

optimising a loop
Dear R community, I'm trying to remove a loop from my code but I'm stock and I can't find a good way to do it. Hopefully one of you will have something clever to propose. Here is a simplified example: I have a squared matrix: > nom.plac2 <- c("102", "103", "301", "303","304", "403") > poids2 <- matrix(NA, 6,6,

iterating over groups of columns
I am mainly a Java/C++ programmer, so my mind is used to iterating over data with for loops. After a long break, I am trying to get back into the "R mindset", but I could not find a solution in the documentation for the applys, aggregate, or by. I have a data.frame where each row is an entry with 10 groups of measurements. The first measurement spans 1 column, the second spans 2

[RFC] NVIDIA hardware reference headers
Hello, The Tegra GPU system software team has begun to align our new-chip development efforts with Nouveau. In particular we would like to arrive at a place where the Nouveau kernel driver code base is our primary development environment. To that end I'd like to add some "official" hardware reference headers to Nouveau. The headers are derived from the information we use

File too big for filehash?

Partial R-square in multiple linear regression
Hello, I am trying to obtain the partial r-square values (r^2 or R2) for individual predictors of an outcome variable in multiple linear regression. I am using the 'lm' function to calculate the beta coefficients, however, I would like to know the individual % contributions of several indepenent variables. I tried searching for this function in many R packages, but it has proven elusive

R Graph Gallery : categorization of the graphs
Hello all, It seems that the next improvement to the R Graph Gallery is categorization of the graphics, that way each graph will be easier to find. That step should be done *carefully* if we want to avoid the opposite side-effect : graph not reachable through the categories. That's why the wisdom of the R community is required. Graphics will be classified in : - categories -

JIT, LTO and @llvm.global_ctors: Looking for advise
Hi Everyone, We are looking for advise regarding the proper use of LTO in conjunction with just-in time generated code. Our usage scenario goes as follows. 1. Our front-end generates an LLVM module. 2. A small runtime support library is linked-in. The runtime library is distributed as bitcode. It is generated using "clang++ -emit-llvm' and 'llvm-link'. This allows
