Setting up a windows system for rcpp
I am running into a wall getting my system to work with rcpp and inline. Following Dirk's advice on stackoverflow, I hope someone is able to help me. My steps were to install MinGW 32 bit first, then installing Rtools, I disabled MinGW's entry in the PATH. I am trying to get the following code to work: library(Rcpp) library(inline) body <- ' NumericVector xx(x); return wrap(

Recursive solution with for()
Hello, i just ran into the following problem: I wanted to recursively solve equations of the type x_1[t]=x_1[t+1]+beta*x_2[t], and used a for-loop written for(j in c(1:t-1, recursive=TRUE){ ... } This didn't work, so i resolved to writing for(j in c(10,9,...,1){ which worked, but is not terribly efficient. So, what did I do wrong? Thanks in advance, Owe -- Owe Jessen Diplom-Volkswirt

Download multiple stock quotes in a loop
Hi all, this should be a simple question, but I haven't been able to do it right. I am trying to download multiple stock quotes in a loop, so that every timeseries is safed with the symbol of the stock. Can anybody help me out? Here's the code: require(tseries) startd <- "2000-06-01" stocks <- c("bmw.de", "vow.de", "dte.de") for(stock in

Multivariate Maximum Likelihood Estimation
Hi, I am trying to perform Maximum Likelihood estimation of a Multivariate model (2 independent variables + intercept) with autocorrelated errors of 1st order (ar(1)). Does R have a function for that? I could only find an univariate option (ar.mle function) and when writing my own I find that it is pretty memory-consuming (and sometimes wrong) so there must be a better way. Thanks, KB

FYI: Package installation problem with windows
Hello, maybe this info is helpful for someone else, at least it is a reminder for me if the problem should reoccur: The last hours R drove me nuts because it wouldn't install new packages, or more irritating still: It would chose randomly which packages to install when given a list ("unable to move temporary installation" ). The solution was to turn of the indexation of

Take the maximum of every 12 columns
The maximum over twelve columns is the maximum of the twelve maxima of each of the columns. single_col_max <- apply(x, 2, max) twelve_col_max <- apply( matrix(single_col_max, nrow = 12), 2, max ) ir. Take the maximum of every 12 columns
Don't do this (sorry Thierry)! max() already does this -- see ?max > x <- data.frame(a =rnorm(10), b = rnorm(10)) > max(x) [1] 1.799644 > max(sapply(x,max)) [1] 1.799644 Cheers, Bert Bert Gunter "The trouble with having an open mind is that people keep coming along and sticking things into it." -- Opus (aka Berkeley Breathed in his "Bloom County" comic

function using values separated by a comma
Hello, I have a dataframe (tab separated file) which looks like the example below - two values separated by a comma, and tab separation between each of these. [,1] [,2] [,3] [ ,4] [1,] 0,1 1,3 40,10 0,0 [2,] 20,5 4,2 10,40 10,0 [3,] 0,11 1,2 120,10 0,0 I would like to calculate the percentage of the smallest number separated by the comma by: 1) summing the values e.g. for

Take the maximum of every 12 columns
Thank you for your kind replies. Maybe I was not clear with my question (I apologize) or I did not understand... I would like to take the max for X0...X11 and X12...X24 in my dataset. When I use pmax with the function byapply as in byapply(df, 12, pmax) I get back a list which I cannot convert to a dataframe. Am I missing something? Thanks again! Sincerely, Milu

being bombarded with SIP packets
Over the last two weeks, we have had at least two "incidents" where our asterisk server got flooded (a hundred or more per second) by SIP packets. Once from 114.31.50.10, second time from 173.212.200.146. We became aware of the problem when bandwidth started suffering because asterisk got very busy sending back replies or rejects (dunno which, I didn't investigate it any further).

Histogram not plotting correct breaks
Hi, I'm using the hist function to plot the frequency of 21 variables, but it keeps starting the x-axis from 0 and adding variables 1 and 2 together (all other vairables have the correct frequencies). I suspect it adds 1 and 2 together so that 0 can fit in with demarcations at intervals of 5. Using "xlim=c(1,21)" to specify that i don't want to include 0 and using the
