Help with rgl
Hi,
I don't know much about the RGL package, and I have read the
documentation and tried some parameters, with no luck... I would like
to generate a movie from a 3D object (code below), where the vortex A
is closer to the observer, and then the object rotates and the B
vortex gets closer. I would like to capture this movie to a file.
By the way, I am not being able to insert unicode text

change pch in 3dplot, export graph
Hello I was wondering if anyone has been able to change the pch value for
points in 3dplot()? I am able to change point colors just not symbol types.
I have included a portion of my code below. I realize this won't work
outside of my script, but thought, maybe there is something obvious that I
am doing wrong. Also is it possible to utilize the interactive feature of

Further rgl()/spheres3d() query
Hi,
I am applying the following code to map pca loadings onto a 3d grid, my
problem is this - the output only plots the spheres in the requested color
(in this case "red") for the first argument. The sphere from the second
argument appear as flat dark circles. Also the text3d() command only seems
to work for a couple of the positions, with no text added in most cases.
Could anyone offer

Variance Components in R
Hi,
I'm trying to fit a model using variance components in R, but if very
new on it, so I'm asking for your help.
I have imported the SPSS database onto R, but I don't know how to
convert the commands... the SPSS commands I'm trying to convert are:

Non-procedural access to columns of a matrix
Hi,
I would like to have an index for a column in a matrix encoded in a
cell of the same matrix.
For example:
x = matrix(c(11,12,13,1,
21,22,23,3,
31,32,33,2),byrow=T,ncol=4)
In this case, column 4 is the index. I then access the column
specified in the index by:
> for (i in 1:3) print(x[i,x[i,4]])
[1] 11
[1] 23
[1] 32
>
> for (i in 1:3) {x[i,x[i,4]] <- x[i,x[i,4]] + 5}
> x

Statitics Textbook - any recommendation?
I would like to buy a basic statistics book (experimental design,
sampling, ANOVA, regression, etc.) with examples in R. Or download it
in PDF or html format.
I went to the CRAN contributed documentation, but there were only R
textbooks, that is, textbooks where R is the focus, not the
statistics. And I would like to find the opposite.
Other text I am trying to find is multivariate data

Plots with k-means
Hi,
I'm doing a k-means cluster with 6 clusters and 15 variables. Any
suggestions on how to plot the results?
I've tried the standard xy plot, but couldn't get much of it.
Thansk in advance,
Iuri.

call fortran in R
Hello,
I used a mac G5, R.2.1.1, and G77 3.4.4 and I would like to use and
call a fortran subroutine.
The trouble is that it seems I am not able to correctly load the
compiled code.
Here is what I have done:
In the terminal this how I compiled my fortran code:
R CMD SHLIB ~/Desktop/Fortan_kmeans/kmeans3.f
There is the wrapper I have paste inside de kmeans3.f file:

help with scatterplot3d
Hello,
I am having a bit of trouble with scatterplot3d().
I was able to plot a 3d cloud of points using the following code:
>my.3dplot<-scatterplot3d(my.coords, pch=19, zlim=c(0,1), scale.y=0.5,
angle=30, box=FALSE)
where my.coords is a data frame that contains x, y, and z coordinates for
grid points whose elevation we sampled.
The problem occurs when I try to add points using points3d.

Function for multiple t tests
Hi,
I want to run t.test() for several variables among two groups, and I
would like to skip the tedious process of collecting information to
assemble a table, but I am not sure if the function I want already
exists. Any suggestion would be appreciated.
I have a working example, as required by the posting guide:
my_swiss = swiss[-1,]
my_swiss$facto = rep(1:2,nrow(my_swiss)/2)

rgl 'how-to's
Doing a visual graphic and trying to make it "pretty"
Here's simple chart to play with:

RGL plot : cex and zlim arguments do not work
Dear all,
I have a quiet simple problem (shared by a collegue) but no solution at
yet. The arguments I use in bbox3d or text3d do not have any effect on the
graph. I need to use 'cex' and 'zlim' but It does not work. Maybe my
problem could appear trivial but I have spent a lot of time on that.
If you have a solution, please let me know!

Plotting K-means clustering results on an MDS
Hello All,
I'm having some trouble figuring out what the clearest way to plot my
k-means clustering result on an my existing MDS.
First I performed MDS on my distance matrix (note: I performed k-means on
the MDS coordinates because applying a euclidean distance measure to my raw
data would have been inappropriate)
canto.MDS<-cmdscale(canto)
I then figured out what would be my optimum

Precision in R
Hi,
Why sum() on a 10-item vector produces a different value than its
counterpart on a 2-item vector? I understand the problems related to
the arithmetic precision in storing decimal numbers in binary format,
but shouldn't the errors be equal regardless of the method used?
See my example:
> options(digits=22)
> x=rep(.1,10)
> x

points3d and ordirgl
Hello all, I have been using the function ordirgl to plot 3D dynamic
ordinations. The ordirgl function works just fine. IN fact, I was even
able to write a function that allows me to identify points in the 3D plot:
identify.rgl<-function(env_var,ord,dim1,dim2,dim3)
{
tmp<-select3d(button="left")
tmp.keep<-tmp(ord[,dim1],ord[,dim2],ord[,dim3])

rgl.postscript
Hi,
I am having an issue when creating a postscript file from RGL window. It
seems to cut off some of the axis labels. Here is the code I am using.
I created a 3D plot using RGL_0.71 with R 2.5 on Windows XP.
z1<-c(5,4,1,4.5,2,3,2,1,1)
z2<-c(6,8,7,7.5,5,3.5,4,1,1)
z3<-c(3,2,4,7,3,4.5,6,2,3)
x1<-seq(1,9)
x2<-seq(1,9)
x3<-seq(10,18)
y1<-seq(8,0)
y2<--1*y1

EM unsupervised clustering
Hi All,
I have a n x m matrix. The n rows are individuals, the m columns are variables.
The matrix is in itself a collection of 1s (if a variable is observed for an
individual), and 0s (is there is no observation).
Something like:
[,1] [,2] [,3] [,4] [,5] [,6]
[1,] 1 0 1 1 0 0
[2,] 1 0 1 1 0 0
[3,] 1 0 1 1 0 0
[4,] 0 1 0

which points within an ellipsoid? Sorting data in 3d
Hello,
in a three dimensional coordinate system, I'd like to find all my
experimental data points that fall within an ellipsoid around a fixed
coordinate. The fixed point is defined by (x.coord.point,
y.coord.point, z.coord.point). The coordinates of the ellipsoid are
given by the three vectors x,y,z.
In a previous version of my code, I simply used a box instead of an
ellipsoid to sort

Installing Package rgl - Compilation Fails - FreeBSD
Brian,
I just tried your version rgl_0.70-2 with R-2.5.0 on FreeBSD 7.0-CURRENT
(i386) and it works!
Thank you very much for this competently and very fast help.
Next I will try if it compiles on amd64, too ...
