I figured out that the system boots OK and it is possible to login remotely. However the monitor does not start up. Do you know how to fix it? Try another console like ALT-F2. See if you have a black screen login prompt. I opened a bug with RedHat for a system that when I went from 6.7 to 6.8 booted but would not start the X server. Problem was in the MACH64 driver. It is missing an external symbol that the X server requires. -----Original Message----- From: CentOS [mailto:centos-bounces at centos.org] On Behalf Of Leroy Tennison

NT User Account Locked Out By Samba
I am currently using Samba on several unix servers, and have numerous users accessing them from NT workstation machines. I have my samba security set equal to DOMAIN. And I have successfully added the unix servers to the domain and created the domain accounts. The problem I have is not a constant problem, but it is a major inconvenience. Sometimes, when a user attempts to access the samba share,

Rubin's rules of multiple imputation
Hello all, if I have multiple imputed data sets, is there a command or function in R in any package you know of to combine those, I know one common MI approach is rubins rules, is there a way to do this using his rules or others? I know theres ways, like using Amelia from Gary King's website to create the imputed data sets, but how to make them into one or combine them for analysis.

I am also using CentOS, but to get a bug fixed, you have to go upstream to RedHat. I think John Pierce is right, I had to change my run level to get the alternate consoles to work. I still have the machine at run level 3 hoping that a bug fix lets me go back to run level 5. Other machines work fine, just the 2 with the MACH64 video on the motherboard will no longer run X. New Eyes Needed to See Syntax Error
One of many scripts to produce 4 lattice plots on one page keeps throwing an error. I've tried manipulating the file to eliminate the error, but have not been able to do so. The error is: > source('bicarb.R') Error in source("bicarb.R") : bicarb.R:15:1: unexpected symbol 14: 15: hco33 ^ The 'h' is in column 0 so the caret would be column -1, but it's

Classic fail-safe N
Hi all, I was conducting a meta-analysis of single proportions(i.e. without a control group) using the metafor package. When I performed a classic fail-safe N, I noticed that the result (the number of missing studies that would bring p-value to the alpha, to be exact)was different than that I got in Comprehensive Meta-Analysis Version 2.0. I wonder why R and CMA got different results. *Below is

Results of applying na.omit on zoo object
I read in ?na.omit that it returns the object with incomplete cases removed. I interpret this to mean that any zoo object row where any column shows 'NA' will be removed from the data set. That's not what I need, since the 'NA' represents information in my context. However, what I would like to do is eliminate the rows where every column is 'NA'. When I aggregate

RE: Comparison of correlation coefficients - Details
Dear all I apologize for cross-posting, but first it is accepted custom to thank the repliers and give a summary, and second I have still the feeling that this problem might be a general statistical problem and not necessarily related to microarrays only, but I might be wrong. First, I want to thank Robert Gentleman, Mark Kimpel and Mark Reiners for their kind replies. Robert Gentleman kindly

remote password change, if password is expired
Hi, we have a couple of users which "forget" to change the passwords even if they get an reminder. Normally we tell them to use a windows machine, where you can change your password if it's expired. But how can a remote user change his password if it's expired ? Is there any secure solution for thisĀ  ? -- Bye, Peer

Controlling Order of Panels in Lattice Trellis Plots
With multiple panels in a lattice trellis plot the sequence is, for example, 1, 10, 11, 12, 2, 3, 4. I want the sequence to be 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 11, 12. Reading ?strip.default and the appropriate section in the Lattice book I'm not seeing how to specify the 'human' numeric order rather than the computer numeric order. A pointer will be appreciated. TIA, Rich

optmizing with monotone stepfunctions?
Before re-inventing the wheel I would like to ask: does anyone know about an optimizer in R which can reliably identify which value of X (Xopt) leads to Y (Yopt) closest to Ytarget in Y <- MonotoneStepFun(X) optionally with the restriction that Yopt <= Ytarget (at least if any Y <= Ytarget, otherwise any Yopt > Ytarget would be the preferred answer) If none is known, I will write

read.table() Issue
Yesterday I changed the headers for a couple of columns in data text files and removed hyphens from within character strings, too. When I tried to re-read these data sources using read.table() I encountered an issue I've not before seen. Both files were read almost instantly until yesterday's wording changes. Now both files seem to cause R to hang. Rather than having the prompt

Changing data frame column headings
I have a reshaped data frame with value column headings concatenated from two column headings in the melted data frame. I want to change all 56 headings in a single command, but 'names' allows me to change only one at a time. In Hadley's 2007 article on reshape in the Journal of Statistical Software he mentions a 'rename' function, but I cannot find that. Is there a way to

calculate correlation effect size using contrast analysis for an omnibus Chi-square test statistic
I am looking for an R package with which one can calculate an effect size for a set of contrasts given an omnibus chi-square test statistic (more than 1 degree of freedom). Is there such a package? Presumably, it would implement the procedure (or something like it) described by Roznow and Rosenthal 1996 Psychological Methods 1: 331-340. many thanks! Steven Orzack Fresh Pond Research Institute

Modifying Package Data
The bio.infer package contains a data frame /usr/lib/R/library/bio.infer/data/itis.ttable.rda that needs to be modified. After loading the bio.infer package and attaching the data frame with the data() function, I wrote the data frame to a text file. After adding another row to the data frame I applied read.table() to create a data frame, but it's in my pwd, not the R library data
